Inside and Outside, Summerside Is Sure to Delight

With a name like Summerside, you just know this home is all about living in a vacation state of mind. And as soon as you see this gorgeous, bright and airy Dutch Colonial residence, you can tell that the team at Jones Clayton Construction, Inc. has nailed it. "We chose a name that would evoke the spirit of summer vacation," said Rial Jones, homebuilder. "Family fun. Sun. Water. Good times."

It's a winning interpretation of Dutch Colonial architecture that captivates from first glance with a brilliant white exterior and handsome roofline curves. "This style harkens back to the island homes built by Dutch traders who settled in the East and West Indies. They were inspired by the whitewashed dwellings nestled along the seaside shores and cliffs of Mediterranean countries like Greece," noted Rial.

With the tone so vividly set, this home hits all the right notes from the moment you step through the glass-inset, solid-oak front doors and see tantalizing shimmers from the pool and spa beyond. You'll be drawn through open, flowing spaces that merge indoor and outdoor living for endless pleasant hours of relaxing, gathering and entertaining. And you'll be equally drawn to linger in the home's alluring and accommodating private spaces.

Summerside will delight you with its breezy colors, luxurious materials and finishes, and a host of signature touches. Just a few cases in point: the custom-crafted glass handrail crowning a stair rail of white oak, the Balinese black-rock water feature alongside the spa tub (in the outdoor living area) that sounds as lovely as it looks, the silvery-finished wall coverings of crushed cork that envelop the stylish master bathroom.

This is a special retreat that radiates the warmth and optimism of summer days and nights—and beckons you to settle in for an extended, if not permanent, vacation.

Summerside is located in the Marceline neighborhood and priced at $2,995,000*. Highlights include:

  • 4,788 square feet of indoor living area
  • 5 bedrooms with 5 en-suite bathrooms; 2 powder rooms
  • Formal living room, expansive great room
  • Inviting pool and spa, outdoor living area
  • 2nd-floor multipurpose room with water views
  • 2-car garage

* Price listed inclusive of partial furniture package valued at $100,000. See furniture inventory sheet for detail.

Schedule a visit soon to discover Summerside and our magnificent community of Golden Oak. Contact the sales associates of Golden Oak Realty today at (407) 939-5577.

The blueprint of a home, and a headshot of Valery Tucker, President of Stonebridge Homes, Inc.

Meet Our Newest Golden Oak Homebuilder

As our community has taken shape over the past 5 years, we've shared a number of conversations with our Golden Oak homebuilders. With the coming of the new Kingswell neighborhood, the timing is ideal for a conversation with Valery Tucker, President of Stonebridge Homes, Inc.

Valery and her husband Gary Tucker and partner Todd South have been building distinctive homes in Central Florida since 1996. Widely admired and accoladed, this year Valery was named a Business Owners of the Year honoree at Orlando Business Journal's 18th annual Women Who Mean Business awards.

As President of Stonebridge Homes, Valery's primary responsibility is liaising with the clients throughout all phases of building each new home, from plan design and interior selections through completion. Here are some highlights from our interview with her.

Q: At Golden Oak, we are all about celebrating family and the magic at Walt Disney World Resort. Tell us, how does tradition play a role in your company?

A: It's at the heart of how we turn a house into a home. One of our talents is incorporating our clients' personalities, lifestyles and tastes into special spaces and features for the family to enjoy. These become their places where precious moments happen, where family memories and traditions are made. We always tell our clients that in the end, a house has to not only look good, but emotionally feel good to them.

Bringing that all together hinges on getting to know our clients, learning what they like doing and how they feel about it all, so we can envision them living in a home they love.

Q: What are some examples of how you apply this to your clients' homes?

A: We had a great time being creative with a client who is a retired helicopter pilot and has a lifelong love of aviation. For the home theater room, we brainstormed an adventure theme inspired by the Indiana Jones films, with a 20-feet-long sculpture of the nose of a propeller plane. It looks like it's coming right through the wall. The bar alcove is horseshoe-shaped, as is the ceiling above that's painted with a treasure map. The clients named the islands on the map after their children and even included ours as well! The adventure theme really captures the husband's unique style and joy of life.

Another example is we always try to include a big island in the kitchen area for the kids to hang out, since it's a natural area to come together. We also like to incorporate in the house a cozy niche with a bench for kids to read, daydream and play. We'll work with our clients and designers and artists to create a spot with special touches chosen just for them. For a lot of clients, we'll do the same for the family pet—a comfy niche to take a nap or get cuddles.

Q: It sounds like you have a good sense of how to blend in the personal and the practical. Would you put it that way?

A: Absolutely. You could say that is one of our signatures. It's very natural for me to apply a woman's perspective to the design and build of our homes. I make sure that many of the things that are common sense to women and moms don't get overlooked. Simple things that can make life so much easier, like the best place for the laundry baskets to go, remembering to include electrical outlets for the holiday decorations and considerations for young children or older family members.

Q: When clients compliment your company, what most often stands out?

A: The personal attention that we give them. We care; we get excited along with them. We listen; we're accessible. We're constantly asking ourselves, what can we do to meet their expectations, and even beat them? We are the ones on the job site—my husband and myself—turning the vision into a home. If a client needs us, has a question, they call us and we talk it through.

It sounds so basic, but being a good listener and organizer makes such a difference. I was a schoolteacher before joining my husband fulltime in this business, and know from experience that both of those skills are critical to helping our clients achieve their vision of their dream home. We start with breaking down the process into phases and steps and walking clients through each. We set mutually agreeable expectations and listen to their needs and concerns in a constructive way from start to finish. It makes everybody comfortable with the whole process and outcome. It's our tradition to make the process enjoyable! When our clients have long been in in their home, we inevitably get a phone call saying they miss us!

Q: Golden Oak homes feature some beautiful interpretations of architectural styles. Tell us your favorite example of architecture in the Walt Disney World theme parks, and why. Plenty of our readers have their favorites.

A: I love Cinderella Castle. It is majestic and magical. It exudes warmth and excitement, strength and sparkle! No matter how it is decorated or is lit, whatever time of year, there's nothing like walking down Main Street U.S.A.® and seeing that castle.

The same is true for the homes we build. We want them to feel majestic, strong, and make our clients excited to be home!

A chocolate dessert beside a box that reads 'Ganachery'

Residents' Sneak Peek at Disney Springs™: Immersion by Chocolate

The sheer number of magical places to go and things to do for Golden Oak residents is growing ever more spectacular as the opening of Disney Springs continues through the summer.

Located just 2.9 miles from Golden Oak, Disney Springs puts residents within neighborly reach of great dining, shopping and entertainment amid beautiful open-air promenades, flowing springs and waterfront charm. It's a different kind of experience, brought to life with the same focus on storytelling and attention to detail that goes into our theme parks, resorts and cruise ships … resulting in a welcoming space that only Disney could create.

Last December, even as the first phase of this dramatic re-imagination of Downtown Disney® into Disney Springs was receiving its finishing touches, the Golden Oak Club had already arranged an early preview for residents—with private transportation to and from Summerhouse, of course.

It was a sweet kickoff indeed: a private, small-group tasting tour at The Ganachery, a specialty chocolate shop, before it was officially opened to Walt Disney World® Guests. Hosted by Chef Stefan Riemer and Chef Chocolatier Amanda Lauder, residents were treated to an immersive experience much like a wine tasting. As evidenced by the many "oohs," "ahhs" and "mmms," the showcase of ingredient sourcing, flavor profiles and proprietary blends found an appreciative audience.

"I was so impressed," remarked a resident. "The chocolates and ganache tasted exquisite, and the packaging was beautiful. My wife and I stocked up for holiday gift-giving… ourselves included!"

The jewel-box of a shop is "a fresh take on an old apothecary," said Theron Skees, Creative Portfolio Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, in an exclusive presentation at Summerhouse this March. Residents were captivated by Theron's "behind the magic" look at Disney Springs, especially the imaginative backstory that inspired it: Like the many small Florida towns that developed around natural springs, its first settlers arrived in the mid-1800s, and over time their "town" grew into 4 districts-—Town Center, The Landing, Marketplace and West Side.

It's an inventive approach to creating a vibrant sense of local color that will, all told, play out across more than 150 distinct venues. No wonder the Golden Oak Club calendar is bubbling with sneak-peeks, festive outings and more memory-making at Disney Springs for 2016 and beyond!

A man in a hard hat hammering the wall of a building

Residents Build Hopes and Homes with Habitat for Humanity

On a spring Friday, a group of enthusiastic Golden Oak residents and Cast Members gathered together for a day filled with labors of love on a Habitat for Humanity homebuilding project.

The event marked the kickoff of the Golden Oak Gives series. The community initiative supports local affiliates of charitable organizations that make a difference across the nation and world. Joining with Habitat made for an exemplary kickoff, as since 1976 it has helped over 6.8 million people in need worldwide to improve their living conditions by partnering with them to build or renovate simple, decent houses.

Guided by a team of professional builders, 21 residents and Cast Members donned hard hats and safety goggles and diligently began painting, installing, sawing and hammering—bringing the bare foundation of a soon-to-be, Orlando-area home to life.

With street names like "Joy" and "Motivation", the spirit of hope ignited the project and those who worked throughout the day. The Culinary Cast at Golden Oak created a wonderful picnic lunch that provided extra fortification.

"I could have stayed for another four hours," said one resident. "It's really encouraging to know that what we did today will help a family have a place to build memories together. Everyone deserves that."

Another resident captured the thoughts of all who participated-— and the essence of Golden Oak Gives-— by saying, "I feel so thankful to be a part of what Golden Oak Gives stands for and to be surrounded by people who have a heart for giving."

No question, the excitement is already building for the next Golden Oak Gives event, which will be held in early summer at the Give Kids the World Village in nearby Kissimmee.

Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort Announces New Kingswell Neighborhood

Press Release: Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort Announces New Kingswell Neighborhood

New neighborhood offers last opportunity to purchase estate-sized homesites within this luxury resort residential community

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (April 29, 2016) – This week, Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort announced plans for its newest neighborhood, Kingswell. The new neighborhood will feature the last estate-sized homesites available for purchase within the community. Sale of select homesites will begin today, with prices of finished custom homes to start at $3 million.

Custom single-family homes in the new Kingswell neighborhood will range from approximately 5,000 to 7,000 square feet and feature design and architectural inspiration from European and Caribbean influences. The initial homesites released boast approximate half-acre lots, some with scenic water views. The Kingswell neighborhood is planned to include 53 total homesites.

"Golden Oak offers the best in luxury experiences with a unique opportunity to live at Walt Disney World Resort," said Page Pierce, vice president of Disney Resort Real Estate Development. "We're excited to welcome residents to our new Kingswell neighborhood where families can build special, lifelong memories for generations to come."

The neighborhood is planned to include a community park with natural landscapes, which will be available to all Golden Oak residents. Near the park, a new bronze sculpture of Pinocchio will be featured adding to the unique Golden Oak sculpture series that includes sophisticated interpretations of classic Disney animation located throughout the community.

Rooted in tradition, Kingswell is named after the street where Walt and Roy Disney set up their first Hollywood studio – the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio – in California where they produced the classic cartoon series, Alice Comedies.

Like all Golden Oak homeowners, Kingswell residents become members of the Golden Oak Club, which provides access to amenities including Summerhouse, the private clubhouse for residents featuring the full-service Markham's dining room and Tyler's Lounge, state-of-the-art fitness facility and pool. Homeowners can also take advantage of the Resident Services team, which offers concierge-style services and events throughout the year, in addition to assisting with personal requests such as coordinating park transportation, spa and golf reservations, special event tickets and more.

Kingswell is Golden Oak's sixth neighborhood to be released since the exclusive luxury residential community broke ground in 2010. Golden Oak welcomed its first residents in 2012 and recently announced the addition of Four Seasons Private Residences Orlando in 2015.

Holiday Celebrations of Golden Oak Club Filled with Fun and a Dash of Magic!

Holiday Celebrations of Golden Oak Club Filled with Fun and a Dash of Magic!

Even though winter is now fading into spring, memories of the Golden Oak Club's 2015 holiday celebrations still shine bright. The season's well-rounded roster of themed parties, tasty dinners and festive events offered something for everyone.

Residents are big fans of the Club's annual merry-making and memory-making. "We look forward to the holiday events at Golden Oak every year," summed up one resident. And another: "It has become a part of our family tradition, particularly the annual holiday party for Club members. Each year is better and better."

Here are some highlights from the Club's holiday celebrations:

Launching this season's revelry on December 10 was a trip to Disney's Hollywood Studios® for The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and a visit with Santa Goofy. Residents enjoyed private seating and the children got to join Santa Goofy when he flipped the switch to illuminate the pageant of lights at the show, which would be closing at year's end. The effect "was stunning", said one resident, and another commented, "I was crying, it was so sweet—and they weren't even my kids!"

Music filled the air and spirits soared at a lively performance on December 12 by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, serenading residents in a private suite at the Amway Center.

Residents gathered on December 21 in the Summerhouse Family Room for the Ornament Decorating Event, which has fast become a fun holiday celebration. Craft supplies were provided and residents showed quite the creative flair in decorating their ornaments.

With its Toy Story theme, the Golden Oak Club Member Holiday Party on December 18 sent the holiday cheer to infinity and beyond for residents and their guests. Sarge and his Green Army Men greeted arrivals at the Summerhouse courtyard, while elsewhere endearing Toy Story scenes ranged from the Space Cadet Lounge and Bucket O' Soldiers to Pizza Planet and Sunnyside Daycare. Food in the rooms complemented each theme, such as the BBQ Pork Rib Tips in Woody's Round-Up (Markham's Restaurant) and pizza and chicken wings in Pizza Planet. Later in the evening, Buzz, Woody, Jessie and Bullseye arrived for photo opportunities in Andy's Room (the Summerhouse Family Room).

At the Ugly Holiday Sweater Sunday Supper on December 20, residents came dressed to win… a race to the bottom! The evening was mirthful as contestants vied for the annual title of Ugliest Sweater and the award of a suitably tacky first-place button. As for the supper menu, it was as ever the height of good taste, led by artfully prepared entrées of Chicken Savoy and Hand-Braised Cavatelli.

On the eve of his biggest night of the year, December 23, jolly old Saint Nick stopped by Markham's for a delicious Dinner with Santa event. Children received boxes of cookies from Mrs. Claus and discussed with Santa their holiday wish-lists. As the lists had been sent to him in a special mailbox at Resident Services earlier in the week, Santa knew exactly what was on each child's list and enchanted them with his special knowledge. Even 2 little girls who had been hesitant to meet Santa believed in the magic by the end of the night. There were smiles all around!

The Christmas Eve Dinner at Markham's wowed residents with a parade of special-occasion selections, including house-made fettuccini Alfredo, house-made baked manicotti, chicken savoy, carved prime rib, carved garlic-crusted stuffed pork tenderloin and braised monkfish. And the 7-item dessert menu set many faces aglow!

The flurry of holiday offerings resumed a week later at a private New Year's Eve Reception with Fireworks, where residents and guests rang in 2016 at the France Pavilion in Epcot®. The fantastical celebration featured the New Year's Eve version of Illuminations: Reflections of Earth and was accompanied by a custom menu of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and decadent desserts.

The next day, residents gathered at Markham's for a New Year's Day Brunch. Chef de Cuisine Phillip and team served up the perfect combination of traditional holiday dishes and favorite lunch-and-brunch fare with such selections as black-eyed peas with collard greens and Andouille sausage, chicken and grits with Tabasco-maple syrup, eggs benedict, the ever-popular Golden Oak Burger with Cotswold cheese and bacon. The finale? Actually, there were 4, each a sweet send-off into the New Year: crème brûlée,7-layer chocolate cake, house-made cream puffs and donuts.

Cast Members and residents alike agree that the holiday celebrations at Golden Oak have become some of their favorite memories and traditions. Said a Cast Member, "It's a time of the year here that people don't want to miss!"

Some resident events are included in membership in the Golden Oak Club, while others are available for an additional fee.

An Afternoon with Vintner and Disney Legend Kurt Russell

An Afternoon with Vintner and Disney Legend Kurt Russell

While it's not often that someone gets to fulfill more than one dream in a lifetime, Kurt Russell has been privileged to live out two of his -- movie star and vintner -- and Disney has been a part of both. So when he came to Golden Oak as a part of the Food & Wine Summerhouse Series on October 7 to introduce his GoGi Wines and share his stories, our residents were in for a treat!

Tyler's lounge was the setting for a delectable lead-in to the main event. Two Hudson Bellamy Wines -- 'A Little Time' Sauvignon Blanc and 'Que Syrah Syrah' Rosé, produced by Russell's daughter Kate Hudson and Matt Bellamy -- were paired with tuna poke (tartare), heirloom tomato Caprese, charcuterie selections and artisanal cheeses.

After hors d'oeuvres, residents settled in to the adjacent Markham's restaurant for lunch and Kurt's presentation. Samples of GoGi "Goldie" Chardonnay and GoGi "Angelbaby" Pinot Noir were offered with a choice of either roasted pork loin or butternut squash ravioli. During lunch, Kurt regaled our residents with stories of his legendary movie career with Disney. He debuted in the 1966 feature film, Follow Me Boys! and continued with recurring roles as Dexter Riley in The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, Now You See Him, Now You Don't and The Strongest Man in the World. As an adult, his appeal and roles continued in such notable Disney films as Miracle and Sky High.

His career with Disney resulted in such memorable moments as "Mr. Disney" showing him early plans for Epcot® and his mother arranging a helicopter to take him early from the set to make a baseball game. After the game, Walt found him and said, "I heard you had the game-winning hit! Atta boy!"

With such a strong connection to Disney, it is fitting that Kurt came to our magical community to share his second dream of producing fine wines. He related during his visit that his love of creating wine was spurred by his travel to wine-making regions in France, Italy and California. He ventured into making his own wines in 2008 and remains actively involved in the process, choosing exactly the right combinations of grapes for his blends. One of his wines is named for this mother, Lulu, and is only available to her.

Following Kurt's presentation, enthusiastic residents were able to ask him questions as he walked around the room, taking the time to speak to each table. At the end, each resident received a signed photo of Kurt taken at the Golden Oak Ranch in Placerita Canyon, CA, while filming Follow Me Boys!.

"I was so excited I could hardly sleep last night," one resident said. "Miracle is one of my favorite inspirational movies."

GoGi Wines are served at Citricos, Le Cellier Steakhouse, The Brown Derby and Victoria & Albert's, all located at Walt Disney World® Resort, as well as at Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort. They are also available at select restaurants around the country.

Discover Marceline's Showcase Homes

Come On In! Discover Marceline's Showcase Homes

With many residents already settled into their new homes at Marceline, and more homes under construction, the architectural palette of our newest neighborhood is making an impressive statement of style.

Two exemplary examples already reside in Marceline's stunning showcase homes, Riviera (Lot 6) and Acadia (Lot 7). Both are ready for you to admire and explore on a private onsite tour. But until then, let's preview them with a browse through each, accompanied by highlights from their builders.

RIVIERA
Tuscan-inspired rusticity meets 21st century sophistication at Riviera -- and the result is a 5,178 SF indoor-outdoor haven. As builder Chad Cahill of Cahill Homes puts it, the distinctive home was designed to "feel as good as it looks" at every turn.

Chad's team drew inspiration from the trees around the homesite and the natural preserves behind. They arranged the floor plan to "frame" the home's outside views, while enabling an easy going, feel-good flow throughout. "Everywhere you turn," said Chad, "something wows you." He cites the home's stunning walk-in foyer, "where you're met by a commanding picture window that draws your gaze outside to the shimmering pool and trees beyond." Similarly, the charming guest casita feels like a tree-house cabana from its leafy perch overlooking the pool.

Attention to detail is a defining reason for Riviera's look-good, feel-good success. For example, the great room's soaring, vaulted ceiling is spanned with timbered beams -- a striking effect that is made even more so with the subtle glow of strategically placed LED lights. A Crestron whole-house automation system allows for near-effortless control of the home's comfort and ambiance, including functions such as heating and cooling, lighting, sound, TVs, pool and fountain. Thoughtfully placing a butler's pantry and farmhouse kitchen to the side of the main kitchen allows for extra and unobtrusive prep, staging and storage. The main-floor laundry, convenient to the master suite, is tucked away behind a mirrored door to the master closet and bathroom. Carefully sprinkled throughout are Disney touches, hidden Mickeys included. And many more highlights await your discovery.

The 5,178-SF Riviera, priced at $3,095,000, is available for purchase with leaseback. It features 5 bedrooms with en-suite baths and walk-in closets; 2 powder rooms; foyer, great room and private owners' suite enfold sheltered outdoor living and dining areas, pool and spa; wine room, elevator and more.

Click here to take a visual tour of Riviera.

ACADIA
Not only a showcase home, Acadia is also the first home at Golden Oak to be built in the Louisiana French style. As with the Old World and Old Florida styles already gracing our community, it is timeless and elegant. And for buyers who are drawn to the open, airy approach of Creole-inspired dwellings, Marceline's Acadia could be the ideal match.

The 4,829 SF home offers inviting spaces to relax and entertain with ease. Extending from the gourmet kitchen and family room is a covered outdoor living area that is outfitted with a summer kitchen and powder room. Acadia's builder, Don Hempel of Issa Homes, notes the many fine finishes that add to the overall casual elegance. "The fireplace mantel," he points out, "is crafted of Scagliola stone, a material that is handmade using centuries-old techniques to achieve the beauty of French limestone." Cresting the space are exposed timbers lining a steep, vaulted roof, a distinguishing feature of the Louisiana French style.

Right off the open kitchen is a wine room to behold. At its entrance is a custom-made iron gate with hidden Mickeys in the pattern. The wine cooler, a glass cabinet with glass shelves, is backed with a lookout window to the outside of the home. "The effect is a real knockout," says Don.

Consider also the detached guest suite that borders a lovely interior courtyard. "When the owners and guests are there, both parties are afforded their privacy. And when the owners are away, it's easy for guests to come and go without needing to open the home."

The 4,829 SF Acadia, priced at $2,980,000, is available for purchase with leaseback. It has 5 bedrooms, 5 en-suite bathrooms and 2 powder rooms. Additional features include advanced home technologies, 3-car garage, exceptional quality and craftsmanship and a location fronting Charming Park.

Click here to take a visual tour of Acadia.

We invite you to come explore these lovely showcase homes and living the magic in our magnificent community. Contact Golden Oak Realty today at 407.939.5577 to arrange your private visit.

Cheers to This Year's Food & Wine Summerhouse Series!

Cheers to This Year's Food & Wine Summerhouse Series!

For Golden Oak residents, this fall's slate of fantastic food and wine events was one for the record books as well as the memory books.

To be sure, it was that time of year for the annual Epcot® International Food & Wine Festival at Walt Disney World® Resort, a longtime favorite of many of our residents.

But the Golden Oak Club fired things up to a whole new level at its 2015 Food & Wine Summerhouse Series, featuring an exclusive roster of seven gastronomic events.

From September through November, residents convened at venues around Summerhouse, Epcot®, and Orlando. Each event dazzled with superbly crafted beverages, foods and personalities -- including Disney Legend Kurt Russell and a Chopped Chef! Here are some "snapshots" of the events.

ORLANDO BREWING
Oktoberfest came right on time to Golden Oak this year -- as did Grateful Pumpkin Ale, Blackwater Dry Porter and Eminent Domain Scottish Ale! In late September, the foursome, along with other engagingly named suds from Orlando Brewing, headlined the inaugural event of this year's series. Some of the brews poured that evening at Markham's were also making their debut at Walt Disney World® Resort.

Residents were introduced to the distinctive personalities of each brew by the company president, John Cheek. His presentation was a fascinating concoction of brewery lore, brewing philosophy and fascinating anecdotes about the beers and their names.

"It was the perfect way to kick-off this year's lineup," said Melissa Schreiber, Golden Oak Food and Beverage Area Manager. "And since our menu offering in Markham's and Tyler's focuses on sourcing products that are local and sustainable, it was natural to tie in with a Orlando producer that is also the state's only Certified Organic Brewery."

WINE 101 WITH QUANTUM LEAP WINERY
Markham's restaurant at Summerhouse was the setting for a late September evening of eyeballing, swirling, sniffing and swishing. Discovery met fun as residents learned the essentials of wine tasting and appreciation with Matt Uva, Tasting Room Manager and Brand Ambassador for Orlando's Quantum Leap Winery.

As they made their way through a collection of Quantum Leap wines -- accompanied by nibbles of aged Gouda, Brillat Savrin, Baley Hazen Blue and Toma cheeses -- residents were guided in discerning the influences of production, barreling techniques and aging on every glass of wine. Questions posed throughout by Matt and the residents made for lively discussion at the palette-pleasing event.

TASTE OF SUMMERHOUSE
In October, the Markham's Culinary Team took residents on a remarkable around-the-world tour of global cuisine. Setting the stage for the series of six scrumptious tastings was a stunning first course: farm-raised Sarasota Caviar served with traditional accouterment, as well as bruschetta, pork paté, sweet onion and Gruyère tartelette paired with Zonin Prosecco from the Piedmont region of Italy.

From there came a deftly orchestrated series of scrumptious tastings of roasted duck stew, dry-aged New York strip, "Land" catfish etouffee, root vegetable tortellini and pork tenderloin with a coffee-cocoa-crust. Each course was served with a stellar supporting cast of accompaniments and spirits, followed by a grand finale of desserts.

Residents deemed Taste of Summerhouse a "perfect" event, and quite a few enthused in parting, "I'm already looking forward to the next one!"

GOGI WINES
Disney Legend and actor Kurt Russell, whose storied career first began in a 1966 Disney movie, came to Markham's in October to introduce his GoGi Wines to Golden Oak fans and share his inspirations and recollections. Click here to read the full News & Updates report!

THE MEEKER VINEYARD
Meeker family wines from their Sonoma County vineyard, presented by Lucas Meeker, were exquisitely paired with creations from the Markham's culinary team during a multi-course October dinner.

THE ULTIMATE FOOD & WINE EXPERIENCE
Wrapping up the Festival was a full-immersion, day-to-night feast for the senses at Epcot®! Highlights of the mid-November event included a private brunch with Chopped judge and chef Alex Guarnaschelli, tastings at the new Sustainable Chew Marketplace, a private backstage tour of the new Lands greenhouse gardens, VIP seating at the "Eat to the Beat" Chaka Khan concert and a VIP viewing of the IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth nighttime spectacular.

GOLDEN OAK CLUB EVENTS: THE FUN GOES ON!
Throughout the year, the Golden Oak Club hosts a creatively curated array of social, recreational and Park experiences for residents to enjoy as a group with family, friends and neighbors. Click here to check out more Club happenings!

In Signature Style: Outdoor Living at Golden Oak

In Signature Style: Outdoor Living at Golden Oak

Living at Golden Oak opens up a wonderful world of magical possibilities—including, of course, having Walt Disney World Resort nearby. But there's a special kind of magic and memories to be made right at home, thanks to the luxurious outdoor living environments here that are so beautifully built in.

These outdoor living areas offer Golden Oak residents a casually elegant extension of their homes, with, given Central Florida's pleasant climate, seamlessly transitioned spaces for relaxing, dining, cooking and entertaining. These settings may feature a pool and spa, plush conversation areas, ceiling fans, television, a full kitchen with refrigerator and burners, grill and fire pit, to name but a few.

Imagine Dad grilling New Year's lunch in the summer kitchen while watching a college football bowl game on TV. Mom and family friends are relaxing on the covered patio with mimosas while the kids are in the pool and the teens are hanging out in the adjoining great room playing video games. When the meal is ready, everyone gathers 'round the outdoor table in the lush courtyard. And later, you and the family stroll out the door to Summerhouse for transportation to one of the Disney parks.

"Such a dream-come-true scenario is absolutely by design," notes Page Pierce, Vice President of Disney Resort Real Estate Development.

After all, Golden Oak was master-planned by Walt Disney Imagineering, with its legendary attention to detail. Said one prospective resident, echoing the sentiments of many who have visited (and purchased) here: "The design of the homes and the layout of the community are superlative. It's part of Disney and all that it entails."

You can see it in how the community's signature old-world and Old Florida architecture is so cohesively translated into floorplans with private courtyards, pools and fountains, and sheltered porches. The effect is a graceful merging of indoor and outdoor living spaces.

As a homeowner at Golden Oak, you can collaborate with your builder and/or interior designer to personalize your own indoor-outdoor living areas of striking presence, comfort and compatibility with the community's architectural standards. Be that during the design-build stage, or while choosing furnishings and adding personal touches, the possibilities and their enjoyment are near endless.

Award-Winning Baker Joins Summerhouse Team

Award-Winning Baker Joins Summerhouse Team

When we asked Valarie Enters—the new Chef Assistant Bakery / Pastry at Summerhouse—to tell The Leaf who is her favorite Disney character and why, she answered with a smile. "Alice in Wonderland, because she was inquisitive and tried different foods."

Valarie's choice perfectly sums up the enthusiasm, curiosity and spunk she brings to both her craft and Summerhouse—qualities she's honed since taking her first cake-decorating class over two decades ago.

"I love making cakes, pastries and breads for our residents and guests," she is quick to say. And it shows. As you walk into the clubhouse in the morning, you'll often be greeted by her freshly made, flaky pastries. The feather-light Parker House dinner rolls (lightly sprinkled with poppy seeds) at Markham's are her handiwork, as are such delectables as streusel dusted with fresh basil-infused sugar or a resident's special-request birthday cake made from their beloved family recipe.

Each of her creations offers a delicious, subtly distinctive approach to classics and favorites. They're a treat in their own right, while complementing the menu and settings they're designed to accompany. Closely collaborating with the food and beverage team, Valarie says that her creations, "are part of the fun and challenge of providing Guests with memorable Summerhouse experiences."

"Ordinary" is definitely not a word in this baker's working vocabulary. Valarie's made-from-scratch pies and cakes are award-winning. Her cherry pie won Best of Show in the 2006 National Pie Competition and she was a finalist in the "Food Network Challenge: Gingerbread Champions," to mention but a few of her honors.

During a recent Memorial Day weekend, Golden Oak residents delighted in Valarie's artisanal versions of classic all-American apple and lemon-cream pies, made from scratch. Guests at a private party enjoyed an array of delicious mini-desserts, including Key lime pie and tiramisu.

Fresh ingredients grown in the Golden Oak garden often figure into Valarie's recipes as well. For example, in making her focaccia (soft, rustic flatbread), she layers the flavors beginning with olive oil that she's infused with rosemary harvested from the garden. "This oil goes into the dough, and is brushed onto the focaccia once it's out of the oven," Valarie says. "Right away, I grind a bit of the rosemary into sea salt, which I sprinkle onto the piping hot bread."

It all sounds scrumptious and deliciously demonstrates Valarie's passion for her craft. She joins the team at Golden Oak after baking for Disney's Contemporary Resort and Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, as well as other notable companies, and has taught baking to middle-schoolers.

Welcome, Valarie! May your inner Alice in Wonderland continue to inspire you.

Home for the Holidays at Golden Oak

Home for the Holidays at Golden Oak

Could you imagine that being home for the holidays would mean a frosted evening filled with twinkling lights, snow and Elsa? A chance to feel like a real-life Cinderella? Neil Patrick Harris reading you the Christmas story and a fireworks display to ring in the New Year? That's just what it meant to Golden Oak residents when they relished one magical event after another this past holiday season.

The Turkey Trot kicked off the holiday events with Golden Oak's first-ever 5k. After a light breakfast of pastries, muffins and fruit, two energetic Cast Members—dressed in full turkey costumes—egged-on residents to join them in a jog. In all, more than 40 residents—and the two turkeys—trotted through the community.

"Those turkeys really stole the show," said one resident. "It certainly made it a fun race!"

On Thanksgiving Day, the culinary team at Summerhouse created a delicious traditional holiday dining experience served family style for residents as if they were in their own home. The meal included Carolina heritage breed roasted whole turkey, creamy mascarpone whipped potatoes, country green beans with Vermont herb butter, sage-scented bread stuffing, candied sweet potatoes with toasted pecans and brûléed marshmallows, house-made cranberry sauce, warm artisanal breads and apple or pumpkin pie.

Residents were transported to Epcot® to see Neil Patrick Harris host the Candlelight Processional on December 2. His moving reading of the Christmas story, accompanied by a full orchestra and a choir singing songs of hope and joy, reminded residents of the true meaning of the season. Five Golden Oak Cast Members lent their voices to the choir and gave residents a special connection to the performance.

The Resident Holiday Party on December 19 delighted the young and young at heart when they were met at Summerhouse by a flurry of twinkling lights and a Frozen winter wonderland. Children could barely contain their excitement when they were greeted by Anna and Elsa from Frozen! Olaf also joined the party and residents had the opportunity to capture photos with their favorite Frozen friends in a special Summerhouse location that was transformed to celebrate the evening. After photos, there were cookies to be decorated, faces to be painted, caricatures to be drawn, and snowballs to be thrown! Following a dinner at Markham's, the children finished the evening with a friendly snowball fight; with special indoor snowballs of course!

"It was such fun getting pictures taken with the Frozen characters," said a resident. "Summerhouse was transformed into a beautiful winter scene and the food was wonderful, as usual."

On New Year's Eve, many residents began their evening with a celebratory dinner at Markham's. After dinner, residents had the option to board private transportation and experience a private viewing area near the France Pavilion at Epcot®, ringing in the New Year at the "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth" fireworks display. With a warm drink bar and delectable desserts, residents were seated at festive tables right on the water to enjoy the show and welcome in 2015.

"I can't think of a better way to start the New Year off than to have a waterfront view of such a stunning show," one resident said. "It started my year off right."

Lunching With a Disney Legend

Lunching with a Disney Legend

Last November, Golden Oak residents gathered at Summerhouse for an exclusive event to remember: meeting Marty Sklar, a Disney Legend and the retired president and principal creative executive of Walt Disney Imagineering and one of the most legendary minds behind the magic of Disney.

And what a stellar experience it was! Residents savored a memorable feast of ideas, luncheon and entertainment, culminating in a presentation of Marty's favorite memories of his half-century Disney career. And the icing on the cake? Signed complimentary copies of his 2014 book, Dream It, Do It! My Half-Century Creating Disney's Magic Kingdoms.

Anticipation was high to spend time with the Disney Legend who helped to develop and open nine of the 11 Disney Parks around the world. "Marty Sklar is one of the greats," summed up one arriving resident. "He was at the forefront of so much Disney history, and we're super excited to meet him."

Setting the perfect tone for the event was none other than classic barbershop quartet the Dapper Dans, who surprised residents with serenades as they began lunch at Markham's restaurant.

Already experts at designing fine foods and beverages that feature Disney touches, the Markham's culinary team delighted the group with a menu starring "Marty salutes." Included were nods to his birthplace in New Brunswick, NJ ("Garden State" fall salad, "New" Brunswick Stew) and a "Chocolate Spaceship Earth" dessert. The latter, an original homage to Marty's extensive involvement in the creative development of Epcot®, provided an iconic liftoff to the presentation.

Marty shared the fascinating story of his Disney career, from his start in 1955 as a collegiate writer of Walt's speeches and Disneyland® Resort marketing materials. The young creative thinker, who worked so closely with Walt that eventually he became nicknamed the Sorcerer's Apprentice, would become the president and principal creative executive of Walt Disney Imagineering. Named a Disney Legend in 2001, Marty was honored as one of the many individuals whose imagination, talents and dreams have created the Disney magic.

As remarkable as his career has been, Marty's presentation was much more than a biographical snapshot. As only a Disney Legend can do, he took residents on an inspiring and anecdote-filled look at the optimism, creativity, innovation, hope and – yes – fun that to this day shapes the magic of Disney. Following the presentation, Golden Oak General Manager Barry Jacobson presented Marty with a custom-made blueprint made by Walt Disney Imagineering, featuring many of the projects that he contributed to over his career of five decades. The residents in attendance also received copies of the blueprint as a keepsake.

"The one thing above all I have truly loved about our process at Disney is starting over with a blank sheet of paper and creating something new and unique," Marty observed. "With my fellow Imagineers, we've done that over and over again with new parks and resorts, new attractions, new cruise ships, new entertainment and retail concepts."

Golden Oak Breaks New Ground with Farm-to-Table Dining

Golden Oak Breaks New Ground with Farm-to-Table Dining

Imagine strolling through the garden to pick the freshest, most aromatic herbs and mouth-watering vegetables and fruits to use in the kitchen. Juicy oranges plucked right off the tree, luscious blueberries bursting from the bush, aromatic basil, thyme and oregano delighting the senses and ready to season dinner.

This is just what the staff at Summerhouse does on a regular basis in offering residents a true farm-to-table feast. Markham's Sous Chef Michael Gonsalves recently created a succulent sample of Roots, Hay Smoked Carrot, Charred Salsify, Sweet Potato Tortellini and Vine Pistou, and Cherry that exemplified the superior flavor that comes with using fresh, house grown ingredients straight from the Summerhouse garden.

"Our goal for the Golden Oak vegetable garden development project is to bring only the freshest ingredients into the restaurant all while educating residents about the hands-on, daily agricultural process," Gonsalves said.

The first ever agricultural garden at Walt Disney World® Resort outside of The Land pavilion at Epcot®, the garden at Summerhouse produces 35 varieties of vegetables, edible plants and herbs including eggplants, black eyed peas and collards. One member of the Summerhouse team is specifically devoted to tending the Summerhouse gardens and finding ornamental plants like the Canna Lily and Marigold which beautify the gardens and are edible!

The team is working to cultivate a garden at Summerhouse that produces seasonal crops that will wow the residents with flavor and variety for the unique dishes whipped up at Markham's.

"We are laying the foundation for deciding which plants are right for our climate and seasons," Chef Russell Palmer said. "Once we know what grows best, we will fill the garden with unique and flavorful crops to spice up the menu even more."

The garden is spread out across Summerhouse property. There is an orange grove in addition to a bay leaf tree and all-spice tree. There are raised beds along with trellises for vine crops. There are beautiful, edible flowers. As the garden grows, more edible plants will be introduced so that residents will have more pizzazz for the palate.

Residents who can't get enough farm-fresh fare can experience garden tours and receive tips for trying out Summerhouse horticulture practices in their own gardens.

Golden Oak Residents Treated to Their Very Own Food & Wine Events at Summerhouse

Golden Oak Residents Treated to Their Very Own Food & Wine Events at Summerhouse

Golden Oak enticed residents with 4 events at Summerhouse to pique the palate. An intimate experience inspired by the 19th Annual Epcot® International Food and Wine Festival, the series at Summerhouse began September 20, 2014 and ran until October 25, 2014. It mirrored the 53-day food and wine event at Epcot® on a smaller, more private scale and offered residents a full range of foodie experiences — including wine pairings, beer tastings and book signings.

The Summerhouse events kicked off on September 20, 2014 with a stunning presentation by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson and a Grand Marnier Brand Ambassador. Select pours of wine and Grand Marnier liqueur were paired with dainty delectables created by Markham's culinary team, including seared duck breast with fennel, orange-glazed pork belly and a finale of mocha cake, creamsicle ice cream and fig puree.

October 10, 2014 brought Executive Brewmaster James Emmerson and Founder and CEO Irene Firmat all the way from Full Sail Brewing Company in Hood River, Oregon. Residents enjoyed a delicious selection from the microbrewery where Full Sail Brewing Company hand-crafts all of their beers, using hops and barley from trusted local farms and water from a spring on Mount Hood.

On October 17, 2014 Regional Brand Manager Mary Joli showcased elegant, classic wines from Willamette Valley Vineyards. Also based in Oregon, Willamette Valley Vineyards hand-grows its fruit on unique terroir that is similar to the red clay found in Burgundy, France.

Celebration was in order on October 25, 2014 at Summerhouse when a Veuve Clicquot Brand Ambassador presented pairings of champagne and petite portions created by Markham's.

Once Golden Oak residents experienced all that was offered in this array of culinary affairs, they were equipped to create pairings of wine, beer or champagne with homemade tasty tidbits for a fine feast.

*Please note: All activities are for ages 21 and older. Valid photo ID is required.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ Tour: Golden Oak Residents Live to Tell the Tale!

To tour or not to tour? That was the question facing the Golden Oak residents on July 22, 2014 when they were invited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™. Would they make it back to the real world or would they suffer the fate of the five passengers who were lost on a stormy night in 1939?

Our intrepid residents decided to take the chance, energized by the treat of breakfasting on the Tower of Terror Balcony before Disney's Hollywood Studios® opened to Guests.

Fortified by a hearty breakfast including cereals, fruits, and the beloved Mickey Waffles, our residents commenced their tour of the attraction and its elevator-like ride.

Cast Member Dillon Dube, bellhop at the attraction, guided the residents on an exclusive tour as they not only got to experience a first-hand look at the extra-special details that make this attraction so unique, but also were lucky (or unlucky) enough to take the first ride of the day.

"We loved having the opportunity to see the behind the scenes of the attraction," said one of the residents.

Dillon revealed to his captive audience that Hollywood Tower Hotel lobby is furnished with various antiques, including rare 17th century Portuguese chairs. He also pointed out several of the fascinating references to the original TV episodes of The Twilight Zone® that appear throughout the attraction. Two of special interest include "Invader," a creepy alien hiding in the library, and "Caesar," a ventriloquist dummy.

After a behind-the-scenes look at the mechanics of the ride vehicle and lift, residents finished their tour with a bone-chilling descent on the elevator-like ride. We are happy to report that all residents that attended emerged in good spirits and returned home safe and sound!

Golden Oak Residents Enjoy "Tiki-rific" Weekend at Summerhouse!

Golden Oak Residents Enjoy "Tiki-rific" Weekend at Summerhouse!

The scent of gorgeous handmade leis, the vision of fire twirling in the hands of dancers, the thump of drum instrumentals, the taste of tropical food and drinks.

Golden Oak residents were whisked away to a tropical Tiki paradise at the first ever Tiki Weekend at Summerhouse August 14 through 17, 2014 without even leaving the community.

Upon crossing the threshold of Summerhouse on Thursday's kickoff evening, guests were adorned with fresh, handmade leis presented by Aunti Kaui and Ku'ulei — Island Guides from the Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.

From there, they made their way to the "Tiki Bar" (a festively decorated Tyler's Lounge) for custom menu delights that included tropically themed appetizers, such as pork eggrolls with green papaya and cucumber slaw. Hand-crafted tropical beverages were equally delicious and entertaining. The "Uh-Oah" was a particular hit, serving 2-4 people with a unique blend of rums, juices and spice and a big splash of flair!

Residents and their guests enjoyed the island sounds of a strolling ukulele player and Hawaiian dancing. The ambience was enhanced by Polynesian touches like Cast Members in themed costumes, fishnet décor, custom seashell centerpieces and more.

"We enjoyed devising every little detail," said Golden Oak Resident Services Manager Jamie Kneebone. "We wanted to magically transport our residents to an island paradise to experience authentic Polynesian food, drink, and entertainment."

Live island-style music captivated Friday evening guests in the "Tiki Bar", while Saturday evening's strolling musicians were followed by an amazing encore. Guests were dazzled poolside by a fire-knife twirler and accompanying drummers. Fun specialty drinks flowed while the flames burned bright!

The weekend culminated on Sunday with a delectable Tiki-themed supper and a stellar turnout.

"I think this was a wonderful event attended by many members of our community," said one of the Golden Oak residents. "Everyone I talked to thoroughly enjoyed the food, the authentic music — even the staff were part of the theme in their colorful Island attire!"

Satisfied after the sumptuous meal, as the flames dimmed, the music faded and the fragrance of tropical flowers wafted away, residents made their way back to their homes feeling relaxed, satisfied and ready to face the world beyond their tropical paradise.

Delightful holiday-themed treats at Summerhouse.

Magical Memory-Making is Always on the Calendar at Golden Oak

Golden Oak residents are living the magic to the fullest! They're enjoying a signature array of social, recreational and Park experiences at Golden Oak, Walt Disney World® Resort, and points beyond – often sharing these magical moments with fellow residents.

"You can feel a growing sense of community and camaraderie among our residents," said Barry Jacobson, Operations General Manager at Golden Oak. "Summerhouse has become our residents' central gathering point for club events and activities, and for dining at Tyler's and Markham's. In fact, recently two of our families who first met at Golden Oak went together on a Disney Cruise Vacation."

The community calendar offers well-curated, appealing experiences that showcase popular attractions as well as hidden treasures. Some events are included in membership in the Golden Oak Club, while others are available for an additional fee. At an outing to an Atlanta Braves Spring Training Game, for example, residents enjoyed suite seating with lunch at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and round-trip transportation. Later, many gathered post-game at Tyler's Lounge at Summerhouse.

Many of our residents are Muppets fans, so off went a merry band to see the "Muppets Most Wanted" movie this spring. But not before they'd previously gathered at Summerhouse to view the original Muppet movie from 1979. Fun times two!

A Fantasmic! Dessert party, with preferred seating for residents and their guests, was a thrilling experience. You can read about it here in News & Updates.

As the community hub, Summerhouse serves up an ongoing menu of pleasures and pastimes for families, adults and children. Especially popular among our families are monthly meet-the-neighbors dinners, game nights, sing-alongs, movie nights and themed offerings to celebrate the seasons and holidays (such as Fourth of July fare, festivities and fireworks). Culinary activities like pizza-making and cookie decorating offer extra hands-on fun for the younger set.

Grownups are delighting in cooking and mixology demos, as well as the Signature Dinner Series at Markham's, the casually elegant restaurant at Summerhouse. Epicurian adventures thus far have featured tasting events (wine, craft beer and food pairings) and a showcase dinner. (Read more about it in News & Updates). Other delectable events are in the works.

Behind the scenes, of course, there's plenty of Disney imagination and resourcefulness at work."Our team of Cast Members hand-picks unique events and offerings for residents to enjoy as a group with family, friends and neighbors," said Jamie Kneebone, Resident Services Manager at Golden Oak. "It's a real treat for the team to cook up the offerings for our residents."

A look at the community calendar past, present and future quickly shows all the enthusiasm and magic-making that's in play at Golden Oak. From a Backstage Safari at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, to an outing to an Orlando Magic game, to a preview tour of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom® Park, and other activities for all ages – imagine your family joining in our special kind of magic!

Residents aglow with memories of special Fantasmic! event

Residents Aglow With Memories of Special Fantasmic! Event

This spring, a prime viewing area in Disney's Hollywood Studios® was the setting for residents to be dazzled by a breathtaking nighttime spectacular and specialty eats.

The occasion? A Fantasmic! dessert party that brought together Golden Oak residents and Mickey Mouse, Disney heroes, princesses and villains in the sensational show based on the classic Disney movie, Fantasia.

It was such an evening to remember that "already many of our residents can't wait to go to the next one," said Gaia Gebbia, Event & Activities Manager at Golden Oak. "The weather was perfect. Our residents raved about the desserts and how great it was to mingle and enjoy the experience together."

The night unfolded with fun and suspenseful surprises. Prior to departure from Summerhouse, a number of residents gathered for Fantasia-themed dishes and cocktails at Markham's Restaurant and Tyler's Lounge. Then everyone in the lively group -- ranging from children to grandparents and a few Cast Members from Resident Services -- was whisked away from Summerhouse to Disney's Hollywood Studios® via private transportation.

Upon arrival at their prime viewing area, our group settled in around dramatically lit "glow tables" and were served gourmet desserts and beverages.

And then came the astonishing show. Joined by a cast of 50 costumed performers singing beloved Disney tunes, pyrotechnics, laser lights and classic animation projected onto walls of dancing water, Mickey Mouse reprised his role as the sorcerer's apprentice.

After the return trip back to Summerhouse, many residents reconvened at Markham's and Tyler's. Chalk up another magical event on the community calendar at Golden Oak -- and hats off to the team at the Golden Oak Club for creating it!

"Our pleasure," said Barry Jacobson, Operations General Manager at Golden Oak. "It's all about that something extra to take the experience to another level for residents of the Golden Oak Community. And the Fantasmic! dessert party is a stellar example of the signature offerings we love to create."

We're excited to report that our lovely neighborhood of Marceline is more abuzz than ever with activity. And until you can come see for yourself, take a look at these highlights:

The release of our remaining Marceline homesites is now underway! Following a successful initial offering of 19 homesites last year, the remainder are now available.

Featuring pleasing views of water or natural preserves along with sculpted landscapes, Marceline homesites are sized at approximately one-quarter acre. The finished custom homes range from 3,800 to over 6,000 square feet of living space, and are priced from $1.8 million. Three showcase homes -- currently under construction in the neighborhood -- are scheduled for completion later this year.

Charming Park, one of two neighborhood greenspaces in Marceline, opened earlier this year near the southern end. This perfectly named park is sure to be a popular spot to gather, play and enjoy the seasons.

Charming Park is also now home to enchanting bronze sculptures of classic Disney characters from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Walt Disney's first full-length, animated feature. Magic is definitely in the air, as will soon be the oohs, ahhs, and sounds of laughter from kids of all ages as they mingle with these beloved Disney friends.

In a manicured setting to the north is Marceline's Adriana Park. Named for Adriana Caselotti, who provided the voice for Snow White in the film, the park is envisioned to be an inviting place to stroll, relax and meet friends.

Golden Oak welcomes Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Marceline!

Golden Oak welcomes Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Marceline!

Who's that cute little fella snoozing on a bench in Marceline's new Charming Park? Why, none other than the inimitable Sleepy from the Disney classic movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

And look by the reflecting pool, where the lovely Snow White is singing with the baby bluebird that's perched on her hand. Playing here and there, totally adorable as always, are Doc, Happy, Sneezy, Bashful, Dopey, Grumpy and more forest friends.

Much to the delight of our residents, this magical vignette of cheerful, life-sized bronze characters recently made its debut at Marceline's Charming Park. The scene is the newest addition to the Golden Oak community sculpture series, which enchantingly commemorates Disney friends in nature.

"The sculptures are so captivating and look so real, you almost expect them to start yodeling 'The Silly Song'," said Page Pierce, vice president of Disney Resort Real Estate Development. "There's such a sense of fun, Disney magic and heritage all around. It's a superb spot for memory making and picture taking."

A hip-hip-hooray and heigh-ho to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, now at home in Charming Park! We're pleased to have them join previous arrivals Bambi, Thumper and Flower (near the entrance to Carolwood) and Ariel and Friends (near the fountain on Dream Tree Boulevard).

New Signature Dinner Series a Markham's Wow Residents with Culinary Charms

New Signature Dinner Series at Markham's Wows Residents with Culinary Charms

This winter brought to our residents yet another delectable dimension to the array of exciting and unique food and beverage experiences at Summerhouse: Markham's Signature Dinner Series.

The exclusive dinners showcase noteworthy trends and brands amidst culinary discovery and good company in the casually elegant setting of Summerhouse.

Taking center stage for the opening night of the Series last December -- and inspiring the accompanying meal -- were the award-winning craft beers of Einstök Brewing Company.

"Einstök is a young standout in the growing craft beer market," said Melissa Schreiber, Golden Oak Food and Beverage Area Manager. "Markham's and Tyler's were among the first to feature these Icelandic ales in the Eastern U.S., and our residents adore them. So they were a natural to headline our first Signature Dinner."

Led by Einstök co-founder Jack Sichterman, residents learned about the Icelandic brewery and then took a guided foray into appreciating the flavors and undertones so distinctive to each of its ales.

"We hosted a very engaged group, with many interesting comments back and forth," said Wayne Rigsby, who is Guest Service Manager, Food & Beverage, at Golden Oak. "Between the Einstök ales and their delicious pairings with Icelandic-inspired dishes from Summerhouse Sous Chef Michael Gonsalves, we also had some very pleased palates."

A look at the evening's menu shows, for instance, that the smooth Einstök Icelandic Pale Ale had the perfect partner in a course of Forever-Braised Short Rib with Salsify and Hay Smoked Carrots. And highlighting the robust, chocolate-malted Einstök Icelandic Toasted Porter was a dish featuring Wagyu Beef with Huckleberries, Celeriac, and Elderflower.

A second dinner, held in January, showcased an enviable flight of wines from Oregon's acclaimed Willamette Valley Vineyards. Four "very unique and highly allocated wines, indicative of the Burgundian style, and representing the finest in the region," Melissa told us, "were presented by an executive from the Vineyards and creatively paired with a meal of Old World and New World classics."

The elegant and intense Willamette Valley Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir, 2011, was the ideal match for the Foraged Mushroom-dusted Pork Terrine, Aspic Vegetables, and Winter Truffle. A few flights later, the Willamette Valley Vineyards "Founders' Reserve" Pinot Noir 2010 -- a full-bodied, bright blend -- accompanied a Veal Tenderloin, Confit of Veal Breast, Braised Cabbage, and Dijon jus.

More Signature Dinners are already on the drawing board, Melissa added. "We're excited to offer our residents these unique opportunities to come together and enjoy well-crafted adventures at the table."

Golden Oak Food and Beverage Area Manager Melissa Schreiber leads a talented team in providing extraordinary and personalized service at Summerhouse.

An Epicurean Vision is brought to Summerhouse

When it comes to fine dining, Golden Oak Food and Beverage Area Manager Melissa Schreiber is an expert on the subject. Her multi-faceted training and experience, rooted in Disney tradition, has given Melissa an excellent foundation to provide a perfect blend of extraordinary and personalized service at the clubhouse.

Melissa joined Golden Oak from Victoria & Albert's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, Central Florida's only AAA Five Diamond Restaurant. Melissa has received certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers, is a certified spirits professional, and a certified Cicerone Beer Server. Among her diverse leadership roles at Walt Disney World® Resort includes a position as a restaurant manager at Citricos, a signature dining destination.

"Using my experience in both casual and fine-dining environments, I work with our team to provide an experience for our residents that is refined, yet approachable," she said, "while delivering uncompromising levels of service.

Melissa partners with Summerhouse Chef, Christian Rumpler, to procure ingredients and offerings that are the best in the industry. Whether it's a great vintage wine, craft beer, or a new culinary trend, the team in the restaurant and lounge is committed to seeking new ways to surprise and delight the residents.

"Chef Christian and his team have done a brilliant job creating menus for residents that align with our culinary vision to represent the essence of farm-to-table cuisine," Melissa said. "For example, they choose items at the peak of their growing seasons and combine them with world-class ingredients. And we partner with the team at The Land in Epcot® to incorporate their 'Disney-grown' herbs and vegetables into our dishes. In November, we featured a 'Late Harvest Tomato Soup', made from scratch with tomatoes grown at The Land. Residents love the unique combination of fresh, local, product with a special touch of Disney magic."

You'll find several seasonal offerings in Tyler's lounge, too, Melissa notes. "Our team has taken direction from Chef's approach to cuisine to create custom seasonal cocktails, using hand-crafted components. They'll be added to the menu in the coming months."

Top of mind for Melissa is to create an environment at Markham's and Tyler's that evokes the charm of Summerhouse, while providing a casually elegant destination for residents to spend time with their families and friends.

Whole-heartedly appreciating Melissa's sentiments are Golden Oak residents like Mary Ann. She tells us that her family enjoys dining at Markham's because of the opportunity to meet new neighbors and catch up with the ones they know. They especially love the cuisine and personal service from the Cast Members.

"We come to Markham's for a number of reasons, the first being a great meal with exceptional service," Mary Ann said. "We like how the servers remember the family, and take time to talk and ask about things. We also love how Chef makes an appearance to bring our food and ask about how we are enjoying the meal."

According to Melissa, delivering the high standards of service set for Markham's and Tyler's requires a very talented team of individuals. "Each of our Cast Members is here because they possess a skill set that is extremely difficult to find — one that combines not only knowledge in the industry, but also a presence that is both poised and personable."

Mary Ann said her family notices the special care the entire food and beverage team provides each time they visit.

"The team is very involved in making sure the whole experience is pleasurable, and they are always ready to meet or exceed our expectations," she said. "On a recent visit we were informed about an upcoming beer-tasting, but when Wayne (Restaurant Guest Service Manager) learned we wouldn't be in town then, he offered to set up something for us when we return. That's service!"

Seeing Residents like Mary Ann and her family enjoy their time in Markham's and Tyler's is what it's all about for Melissa.

"The residents of Golden Oak are like an extension of our family, and our team genuinely enjoys being able to develop lasting relationships with them," Melissa said with a smile. "It's an experience like no other I've had with the company, and I am very much looking forward to what the future brings."

Casa de Verano. Meaning "House of Summer" in Spanish, this elegant estate home offers a sumptuous interpretation of the indoor-outdoor living experience so intrinsic to Golden Oak.

Casa de Verano: For the Love of Summer

Welcome summer into your life, whatever the season, at Casa de Verano. Meaning "House of Summer" in Spanish, this elegant estate home will sumptuously surround you with a magical interpretation of the indoor-outdoor living experience so intrinsic to Golden Oak.

Classic summertime fun was a prime inspiration in designing and outfitting the home, according to builder Rick Watson of J. Richard Watson Construction Company, Inc. "When most people think of summer it brings back fond memories, of times they spent with family and friends at picnics, cook-outs, and pool parties. Our goal was to create an environment where enjoying those times is possible year-round... and for generations to come."

Without a doubt, Casa de Verano graciously meets the challenge. For starters, consider what the stunning outdoor living area and pool deck have to offer:

  • More than 1,600 square feet of space.
  • Summer kitchen with grill and under-counter fridge.
  • Large bar and expansive sitting area, with outdoor TV and fireplace.
  • Motorized roll-down screens for the entire area.
  • Beautiful pool and spa.

A striking architectural choice unites the outdoor living area with the adjacent family room, informal dining and gourmet kitchen: six tall, glass-paneled doors, which open wide for the easy comings and goings of family, friends and soft Florida breezes.

The inspiration of an "endless verano" is further evident in such features as:

  • Central courtyard with fountain and covered veranda. "It provides the surrounding living spaces with a lovely view as well as natural light," Rick tells us.
  • Charming private gardens, outside the formal dining room and the spa tub in the owner's bathroom.
  • Private access to outdoor living area from owner's suite, with poolside sitting area.
  • Lush landscaping.

Casa de Verano is located in the Silverbrook (Lot 7) neighborhood and currently priced at $3,295,000.00. Highlights of the indoor living area include:

  • 5,485 square feet.
  • 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 half-baths.
  • Gourmet kitchen and wine room.
  • Separate guest suite.
  • Disney touches throughout.
  • Custom cabinetry, millwork and finishes; high-end appliances and fixtures.

In October, Golden Oak residents were treated to a special wine tasting at Tyler's, featuring wines from the Lasseter Family Winery.

John Lasseter Hosts Wine Tasting Event at Tyler's

Invitations to unique, custom-tailored events at Summerhouse are one of the many wonderful benefits of being a resident at Golden Oak. They're invited to participate in a variety of club-exclusive offerings, such as Pilates and yoga classes in the fitness center, game nights in the family room, and food and beverage tastings in Markham's restaurant and Tyler's lounge.

The Epcot® International Food and Wine Festival is one of our residents' favorite events at Walt Disney World® Resort, and this year, Golden Oak Events and Activities Manager Gaia Gebbia brought a taste of the Festival directly to Summerhouse.

In October, our residents were treated to a special wine tasting at Tyler's, featuring wines from the Lasseter Family Winery. The event was hosted by Chief Creative Officer for Pixar and Disney, John Lasseter, and his wife Nancy.

The Lasseter family opened their own winery in Sonoma Valley several years ago, and a project which began as more of a hobby blossomed into a complete immersion into winemaking, according to Mrs. Lasseter. Throughout the evening, the couple shared with residents the inspiration and creation of their wines, including information about the family's passion for farming their vineyard sustainably.

Mr. Lasseter also engaged the group in a trivia game, quizzing them on their knowledge of wine and Disney/Pixar movies. As a surprise, he handed out Lasseter Family Winery memorabilia as prizes to those who successfully answered his questions.

Many of the families, including the Lasseters, kept the fun going with an enjoyable dinner at Markham's.

"We were very fortunate to have the Lasseters join us at Summerhouse for the evening," Gaia said. "Everybody had a ball."

Summerhouse Signature Dining

Press Release: Summerhouse Signature Dining Experience Now Available to Residents of Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort

One-of-a-kind luxury residential community offers casual yet sophisticated food and beverage services delivered by a world-class team.

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (Aug 27, 2013) Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort has unveiled the newest addition to its complete list of luxury resident amenities – unique food and beverage experiences delivered by world-class Disney cast members at Summerhouse, the luxury residential community's private clubhouse for residents.

With the opening of Markham's, a full-service dining room and the relaxing Tyler's Lounge, Summerhouse fulfills the vision of being the recreational and social centerpiece of Golden Oak. Casual elegance sets the tone throughout the clubhouse, which is styled after a Tuscan farmhouse.

In addition to the new restaurant and lounge, Summerhouse is home to the Golden Oak fitness center, pool facilities, recreation rooms and event lawns, as well as the offices of the renowned Golden Oak Resident Services team.

"The addition of food and beverage service at Summerhouse was a highly anticipated milestone for Golden Oak," said Page Pierce, vice president of Disney Resort Real Estate Development. "While we've created a beautiful dining environment for our residents, what's really special is the caliber of our team members who embody the level of commitment we have to this remarkable community."

Exceptional service is just one example of how Golden Oak evokes the best of Disney heritage and culture. Another example is found in the ways Disney history and stories behind the names of the community's neighborhoods, parks and roadways. The new dining room and lounge continue that tradition. Markham's was inspired by "Spin and Marty," the popular series of TV shorts that aired as part of ABC's "The Mickey Mouse Club" show of the mid-1950s. The series was produced by Walt Disney and filmed at his Golden Oak Ranch in California. Similarly, Tyler's Lounge was inspired by the 1960 movie "Toby Tyler," also filmed at the Golden Oak Ranch.

Something Gastronomic for Everyone

At Markham's, adults discover a range of culinary choices served in an upscale but relaxed setting. Culinary options include house-made charcuterie, seasonal offerings, including local and sustainable when possible, and fresh produce from the Summerhouse garden. Chef Christian Rumpler also puts a creative spin on casual favorites like the Golden Oak signature burger with caramelized onions, gruyere cheese and thick-cut applewood-smoked bacon.

The Markham's children's menu features dishes such as hand-made cheese ravioli or petit filet with fresh vegetables in season, and a healthier twist to the traditional dirt cup dessert, called Dirt with Fruit Worm, made with fresh berries, chocolate pudding and cookie crumbs.

"The Summerhouse dining experience is ever-changing to achieve the highest quality and continually satisfy the tastes of our sophisticated residents. We have taken into account many factors, such as seasonality, sustainability, use of local purveyors and resident preferences," said Melissa Schreiber, Golden Oak food and beverage operations manager. "We want to exceed resident expectations and make them feel at home every time they dine at Markham's."

Exceptional Experiences Created by True Disney Professionals

Summerhouse boasts an impressive roster of world-class culinary experts and Disney veterans who lead the Golden Oak Food and Beverage and Resident Services teams.

At Summerhouse, our residents create their ideal blend of social, leisure and quality time.

So Much to Savor at Summerhouse!

Right in the heart of our magnificent community is a destination experience with its own special kind of Disney magic: Summerhouse, our private clubhouse.

Inviting, beautiful and well-appointed, this signature creation of Walt Disney Imagineering is now in full operational swing.

Golden Oak residents are enjoying the casually elegant Summerhouse as their central hub to meet up, dine well, hang out, dive in, work out, and plenty more.

With its Tuscan farmhouse design and Mediterranean color palette, Summerhouse makes a striking impression.

At Markham's restaurant, for example, residents and their guests dine beneath a barreled brick ceiling with views of the open-front kitchen. An Old World-style bell tower dramatically crowns an alcove to one side of the main room.

Like its design inspiration, Summerhouse effortlessly melds inside with outside, day into night. A center courtyard, with fountain and trellised brick walkways, leads to the heated pool and al fresco dining at Markham's, all gorgeous settings with stunning nighttime ambience.

At Tyler's, the club lounge, grown-ups relax and mingle amid sumptuous, warm-toned furnishings and a custom-built wine cooler. And the Summerhouse family room is a magnet for teens and kids to watch TV, play games (high-tech and old-school) and pal around with friends.

Our popular fitness facility is state-of-the-art, with private training room and workout studio. Expansive windows brighten the room with natural light and look out on a plush exercise lawn that's ideal for yoga and tai chi.

Many are fans of our Golden Oak Resident Services team, whose reception area is conveniently located in Summerhouse. The team brings Disney guest service culture directly to residents and their guests by assisting with select personal, residential and resort requests. They're quite the experts -- and a pleasure to know.

Enhancing our ongoing Summerhouse offerings are specially themed and seasonal activities, as well as don't-miss events for children and adults. True to its roots, our Golden Oak clubhouse beautifully exemplifies the magic of Disney.

"We want our residents to feel that Markham's is their restaurant, their home," says Summerhouse Chef Christian Rumpler.

Summerhouse Spotlight: Markham's and Tyler's

As you may have discovered in the second article of this newsletter, Golden Oak families have some very enticing reasons to enjoy themselves at Summerhouse.

And two prime examples are Markham's and Tyler's -- the casually elegant restaurant and lounge.

Meet Tyler's, a handsomely furnished lounge with full bar and custom-built wine cooler. In keeping with the Tuscan design of Summerhouse, Tyler's exudes a warm, relaxed vibe with its timbered ceiling and mantel, polished stone surfaces and leather seating.

The ambiance is equally distinctive at Markham's restaurant. Exposed bricks line a vaulted ceiling in a hand-laid cobblestone pattern and an Old World-style bell tower at one end of the room rises two stories high. It's a dramatic setting, especially for diners at the round table just below.

Dining al fresco at Markham's is also a treat, with pleasing views of the Summerhouse pool and natural preserves beyond. At night, the poolside glow is captivating.

The open-front kitchen makes for yet more memorable dining, as guests can watch the culinary talents of Markham's in action.

And what a talented team that is! Helming the Food and Beverage service at Summerhouse is Disney Chef Christian Rumpler (whom we profile elsewhere in this issue) – while Melissa Schreiber, another Disney veteran (most recently at the famed Victoria & Albert's, Disney's AAA 5 Diamond restaurant), manages Food and Beverage operations.

Like many of the streets and landmarks around Golden Oak, both Markham's and Tyler's carry Disney "heritage names" -- in this case, the names of popular characters from hit Disney TV and movie productions, both of which were filmed at Disney's Golden Oak Ranch in California.

City kid Marty Markham was the main character of the Disney TV serial, "The Adventures of Spin and Marty," which ran on the Mickey Mouse Club during the 1955-56 season. And the 1960 Disney movie Toby Tyler featured a 12-year-old orphan who ran away to join a circus and became a rousing success in the ring.

We love how these names are yet more happy reminders that the magic of Disney is the heart and soul of Summerhouse -- and Golden Oak.

Helming the food and beverage experience at Summerhouse is Chef Christian Rumpler, most recently of California Grill at Walt Disney World® Resort.

Meet Christian Rumpler, Summerhouse Chef

Imagine being tapped to create a special new Disney dining experience at Walt Disney World® Resort. Now imagine learning you'll be doing it at Summerhouse, the new private clubhouse at the magnificent, one-of-a-kind Golden Oak. That's quite a big toque (chef's hat) to wear!

For Chef Christian Rumpler and Summerhouse, it's the perfect fit.

A longtime Disney cast member with a lifetime passion for cooking, Chef Christian honed his culinary and chef's skills at notable Walt Disney World® Resort venues California Grill, and Le Cellier Steakhouse in the Canadian pavilion at Epcot®.

Prior to the opening of Markham's restaurant and Tyler's lounge at Summerhouse, the Leaf had the pleasure of interviewing Chef Christian.

"We're all about making sure that this is an excellent place to eat, and be social," he told us as he and his team bustled around one recent day. "Whether they're here for tapas and drinks at Tyler's lounge, or a full-service dining experience at Markham's, we want our residents to feel that this is their restaurant, their home."

Here's what else Chef Christian shared with us.

Leaf: Give our readers a glimpse into the Markham's and Tyler's experience.

Chef Christian: Overall, it's about exceeding people's expectations in a magical way. The rooms have the authentic feel of a fine wine cellar in Tuscany -- with a wonderful wall of wine, wooden beams, leather chairs and banquettes, even tablescapes that vary by time of day.

All of our menus feature a modern take on seasonal farm-to-table cuisine. The open kitchen is such a cool and unique concept, especially coupled with the intimate size of our restaurant. So residents can see how their food is being prepared by our cooks, and then enjoy how it's artfully composed and presented to them.

Our goal, as a food and beverage team, is to be right there, making sure our residents' needs are met and giving personalized service.

Leaf: What culinary factors and influences do you take into account when creating the menus and crafting recipes?

Chef Christian: First and foremost, seasonality. Food tastes better when it is at season's peak! We also take sustainability, local purveyors and our residents' preferences into account! We want to give residents what makes them happy and exceeds their expectations.

Leaf: Can you give us an example of a menu item that you're particularly excited about?

Chef Christian: We are super excited about our Tomahawk rib-eye steak. It is a beautiful cut of meat, and there will be plenty for our guests to share or save for leftovers!

Leaf: What kinds of fun things did you create for the kids?

Chef Christian: We have things that are familiar to them, but with our own special twists. So we're hand-making our cheese ravioli for the kids. And we took a healthier spin on the familiar kids' dessert known as "Worms and Dirt." The worms are made from raspberries and strawberries, on top of house-made chocolate pudding with cookie crumbs. As the father of four kids, including one picky eater, I think those fun and interactive desserts are so important for the little ones, and to help the parents relax at the end of the meal.

Leaf: Do you have a favorite quote by Walt Disney?

Chef Christian: Yes, it goes, "You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality." For me it fits, because I couldn't do it without all the members of my team. They're really the ones that make it happen. They get all the credit in the world from me because they work incredibly hard to make sure our residents' needs are met.

Leaf: And last, but not least: Which animated Disney character do you identify with the most?

Chef Christian: Tinkerbell. She always has something going on, she's mischievous and fun, but at the same time gets things done when she needs to. She flutters around, but she has that little bit of sassiness that I can really identify with!

The classic trio of Bambi, Thumper and Flower recently joined our Golden Oak sculpture series, Disney friends in nature.

Backstory: An inside look at the Golden Oak sculpture series

We recently welcomed three more adorable Disney friends to Golden Oak: Bambi, Thumper and Flower!

Looking as if they've just emerged from the forest to discover Golden Oak, these charming bronze statues are the newest additions to our community sculpture series, "Disney friends in nature".

"These sculptures are an enchanting example of the subtle Disney touches that we've placed throughout Golden Oak," said Page Pierce, vice president of Disney Resort Real Estate Development, in a recent conversation with the Leaf. "To know that our families are enjoying them, to watch children go over and greet them like friends, is incredible."

Working behind the scenes with the creative thinkers and sculpture professionals at Walt Disney Imagineering, Page described the care and passion that's infused the sculpture program from the beginning.

"It's important that any sculpture of a Disney character stays true to the animated world it 'lives' in. So when you see their bronze statues, they are always life-sized. Bambi, for instance, is the cute little deer we know and love.

"Along these same lines, the sculptures are thoughtfully placed in a setting that's true to their story. Bambi, Thumper and Flower can be found just beyond the natural preserves along Enchanted Oak Drive, near the entrance to the Carolwood neighborhood. Ariel and Friends are at home around the fountain on Dream Tree Boulevard."

Some of our Leaf readers may recall that Ariel came to Golden Oak from Disneyland. "She's a piece of Disney history that now has a permanent home here," Page said. "We are absolutely thrilled to have her. I like to think she's watching the entrance of Golden Oak."

When asked about the planned sculpture in the Marceline neighborhood that will feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Page told us, "Our vision is to stage the characters in a way that you can get a family photograph very easily. We imagine our residents going back there year after year to get their photographs taken. Doesn't that sound magical?"

We couldn't agree more!

The Leaf thanks Page for his behind-the-scenes perspective on our popular sculpture series at Golden Oak. We'll keep you posted as to which Disney Friends in Nature are next on their way.

Press Release: New Marceline Neighborhood in Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort Now on Sale

Luxury resort residential community sees growing demand for homes

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (May 15, 2013) – Following brisk sales of homesites, Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort announced plans for its newest neighborhood, Marceline. Sale of the first 19 homesites will begin today.

As part of the Golden Oak community, Marceline residents will enjoy a lifestyle surrounded by the Walt Disney World Resort. This quiet, luxurious enclave is located in close proximity to Disney theme parks and recreation. Taking advantage of its natural setting, more than half of the Marceline homesites will offer water views and others will border on a nature preserve. Each homesite is approximately one-quarter acre in size and is within easy walking distance of Summerhouse, the private clubhouse for Golden Oak residents and their guests.

Marceline will showcase the same quality custom home building found throughout Golden Oak today, with residences drawing design and architectural inspiration from European and Caribbean influences. Buyers can select from three prestigious homebuilders to create custom homes ranging in size from approximately 3,800 to 4,500 square feet.

Golden Oak homes start at $1.6 million. Prices, inclusive of homesite, in the Marceline neighborhood will start at $1.7 million.

"We've been delighted by the positive response over the past 24 months," said Page Pierce, vice president of Disney Resort Real Estate Development. "Our first four Golden Oak neighborhoods are nearly sold out, so Marceline quite literally builds on that success."

Marceline is named after the Missouri town where Walt Disney grew up in the early part of the 20th century. Memories from those formative years profoundly influenced creative directions he took throughout his life.

Walt's animation legacy has roots in Marceline, where he first picked up a pencil and sketchpad to try his hand at drawing. The new Golden Oak neighborhood pays homage to that history with a planned sculpture park that will feature enchanting life-size sculptures of characters from Walt's animated masterpiece Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The sculptures are part of the exclusive Golden Oak "Disney Friends in Nature" sculpture series. Sophisticated interpretations of classic Disney animation will be found in parks and other common areas throughout the community.

"The sculpture series is just one example of subtle Disney touches artfully woven into the luxurious character of Golden Oak," Pierce said. "Our Disney Imagineers poured their talents into creating a community that's thoughtful in design, rich with details and home to a lifestyle like no other."

Marceline is just one of many new additions to Golden Oak. The recently opened Summerhouse, the private residential club facility, is the centerpiece of community activities and events. Reminiscent of a large Tuscan farmhouse, it offers delightful spaces for indoor and outdoor gatherings, a pool, fitness facilities with locker rooms, and a family game room. The Summerhouse restaurant and private lounge will debut later this year, offering dining in a casual, yet sophisticated environment.

Summerhouse is also home to Golden Oak Resident Services, the team that brings Disney's guest-service culture directly to residents. Resident Services can arrange personal, residential and resort requests. Services include assistance with travel and private transportation arrangements, tickets for Disney theme parks and special events, private VIP tours, golf tee-times, dinner reservations, and planning parties. It's like having a Fairy Godmother to handle every detail.

Golden Oak residents can also take advantage of "Disney Connection" amenities. These special services include door-to-park transportation to select locations at Walt Disney World Resort, Extra Magic Hours (at one Walt Disney World Resort theme park each day to enjoy select attractions), merchandise delivery from most Walt Disney World retail locations and discounts at all Walt Disney World golf courses.

Meet Josh Wild, Team Member of Golden Oak Resident Services

A Disney Cast Member for over 18 years, Josh Wild remembers the day he learned that Golden Oak would be bringing Disney's famed guest service culture to its residents as part of the community's amenities. Stepping through the door of the newly opened sales center, he recalls, "I knew then that Golden Oak was where I belonged."

Now a Resident Services Coordinator at Golden Oak, Josh recently met with The Leaf for a get-to-know-you chat.

Leaf: In a nutshell, tell us what you and your team do for the residents of Golden Oak.

Josh: I like to say we are "providing a world of fantasy with a taste of reality". To explain, while we are primarily the experts on how to enjoy your Disney experience of living the magic, we also connect our residents with what's beyond Walt Disney World® Resort.

We are a one-stop shop, right here in the center of the community. It is our job to know the residents, listen to their request or vision, and remember their likes and needs. From there we can connect them with the right resources for an experience that is seamless, efficient, and personalized.

Leaf: Sounds like you really get to know our residents.

Josh: We do. We are a small and mighty team. This allows us to develop strong relationships and trust, which allows us to give residents the attention they deserve.

Leaf: Give us an idea of a typical day for you.

Josh: While every day is different, the most highly used Resident Services offerings include developing personalized itineraries, organizing transportation and assisting with dining reservations throughout Walt Disney World® Resort. We also assist with hotel reservations and providing dining recommendations around Orlando. We are the resource to help new residents get acclimated with and enjoy community life as residents of central Florida.

Leaf: Can you elaborate a bit on what's a personalized itinerary?

Josh: Based on what we know about our residents and their requests, we will create an itinerary for a day or particular time frame at Walt Disney World® Resort. Things like recommending attractions, shows and dining experiences, and then making arrangements and reservations. Also, we provide them "tips to success" — ways to make the most of their experiences; for example, always go early to the parks.

Leaf: Tell us your most fun assignment thus far, or most unusual one — something that drew on all your skills and talents.

Josh: It would be one and the same, when I assisted a resident in getting her pet dog flown to their home overseas. It was quite a logistical challenge because many regulations and parties had to be coordinated and it involved two languages, but it was a lot of fun to navigate. The dog arrived home safe and sound, and the resident was greatly satisfied.

Leaf: Tell us what makes you uniquely suited for your job.

Josh: I will say my passion for great service. I enjoy making people happy. There's an overwhelming sense of accomplishment when someone comes to me with a question or concern, and I can satisfy them with a great resolution. Very motivating. I love making and maintaining great relationships, which I can do with Golden Oak residents since they make frequent and extended visits.

Leaf: Let's have fun with our last question. If you were a Disney character, which one would you be?

Josh: I've always said I was like Pumbaa from The Lion King. "A big guy with a big heart, and I love to have fun." The residents would agree. "Hakuna Matata!"

Home for the Holidays, Disney Style

If you've ever visited Walt Disney World® Resort during the winter holiday season, you know that the decorations are some of the most enchanting on earth. For generations of families, it's a cherished tradition to celebrate this special time amid the beauty, magic and cheer of Disney.

Now, imagine that the same talented Disney Cast Members who transform Walt Disney World® Resort and Disney Cruise Line ships into dazzling winter wonderlands could do the same for your home. Imagine having them design your own custom decorations well in advance of the holidays, so when the season arrives you can relax and enjoy the beauty.

For the residents of Golden Oak, that dream can be a reality. That's because enjoying access to Walt Disney World® Holiday Services is yet one more example of the benefits of living here.

Tapping into Disney connections like this for-fee service starts with the Golden Oak Resident Services team, which uses a concierge-style approach to assist families with personal, residential and resort requests.

That's what Golden Oak resident Jan did. "The holidays are very important in our family and with Disney's vast resources, no one does it better," she told The Leaf. "Resident Services arranged for us to meet with Lisa from Holiday Services and the result was pure magic".

Added Lisa: "Like all the families we've met at Golden Oak, Jan's family has a wonderful passion for Disney and the holiday season. She asked us to fabricate custom décor for the interior and exterior of their home, using a traditional style with adornments like magnolias, crystals and elegant ribbon."

Jan and Lisa walked through the house, talking about the themes and colors, tree placement, garlands, centerpieces and exterior design approaches. Lisa pulled from a basket of sample decorations to help convey some of her ideas, such as including olive branches to give the exterior décor a Tuscan feel, to complement the architectural style of Golden Oak. Then Lisa's team got to work.

"When the concept was ready for our review, Lisa sent a digital presentation," Jan recalls, "It was like opening a present early. The photos that Lisa had taken of our home during her visit now included stunning ideas for holiday décor. I couldn't wait to see it all come together."

Jan credits the individualized attention from Lisa and her team as well as the Resident Services team for making the process seamless. And Jan tells us that their home is now a lovely reflection of "the great attention to detail that helps Disney theme parks come alive with the holiday spirit."

Dining Around the World, Close to Home

With the arrival of fall, the Annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival came to Walt Disney World® Resort, with nearly 30 international food and beverage Marketplaces, cooking demonstrations, wine seminars and signature dining with celebrated chefs.

And for one family of four at Golden Oak-dad Paul, mom Gina and daughters Lindsay and Ally-dining their way around the world at this year's Food & Wine Festival was all the more special now that they're living the magic within Golden Oak at Walt Disney World® Resort.

Things got off to a great start with the advance assistance of Golden Oak Resident Services Coordinators Josh and Erin. "They arranged our event reservations with the food and wine representatives. We were able to participate in all the events we requested," Gina said. "It was a wonderfully smooth experience."

Getting to and from the festival was easy, thanks to the dedicated door-to-park transportation provided by Golden Oak-- a favorite benefit of those living here.

For one delectable week, family members immersed themselves in a food and wine lover's paradise, including the Italy Food and Wine Pairing, Mexico Tequila Tasting, Culinary Demonstration with Chef (and TLC 'Cake Boss') Buddy Valastaro and a Grand Marnier® tasting. Capping off one evening was Disney's Dessert Discovery and a V.I.P. viewing of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth.

The family's favorite event? The unforgettable Party for the Senses, where they wandered among tempting tasting stations, enjoyed live music and were awed by the spectacular Cirque du Soleil® performers.

We asked Gina for tips for other families who want to attend next year's Food & Wine Festival. Her answer is just what her family will do their fourth time around: "Start planning early, select your favorite events and get ready to enjoy."

And if you call Golden Oak home, the Resident Services staff that Gina describes as "so accommodating" can help you out from start to finish. Now that's living the magic.

Golden Oak: Where Disney's Guest Service Culture Comes to You

Living the magic at Golden Oak includes having your own Resident Services team to assist with your personal, residential and resort requests. "Our goal," the team tells us, "is to make sure that our residents have all the options right at their fingertips to make living in Golden Oak as personalized and seamless as possible." Resident Services Manager Jamie Kneebone tells us more.

Leaf: As featured in this edition of the Leaf, Walt Disney World® Holiday Services has been working their magic at some of the homes of Golden Oak. Tell us more.
Jamie Kneebone: Holiday Services will custom create for a Golden Oak home the same kinds of incredible holiday décor so admired at Walt Disney World® Parks and Resorts and on Disney Cruise Ships. This is a very special service available to Golden Oak residents for a fee.

How does this work? We arrange for a Cast Member from Holiday Services to consult with a resident at their home. This happens early in the year--usually between the months of February to June, when Holiday Services is designing and planning the décor for all of its locations. After the visit, Holiday Services develops custom designs to fulfill the resident's vision.

To ensure the process is a smooth experience for our residents, we provide a list of potential vendors who can assist the residents with the installation of the decorations after delivery, along with their removal and storage.

Leaf: What's really fantastic is that this is only one of the services available from Walt Disney World® Resort that Golden Oak homeowners can access through Resident Services.
Jamie: That's right! We're their onsite Disney experts. Many of the services that we link Golden Oak residents to are those they enjoyed as Guests in our resorts or theme parks. Whether sending flowers with some Disney flair from our Florists or working with The Disney Event Group to create a Princess-themed birthday party at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Golden Oak Resident Services is here to help create those magical moments. Just about anything you can dream, we can make happen.

Leaf: Of course, Resident Services is ready to handle residents' everyday requests as well. Give us some examples.
Jamie: Popular requests include Disney parks and special-event ticket purchasing, dining reservations, resort reservations, arranging private VIP tours and assistance with itinerary planning. We can also help with personal services by providing residents with a contact list of local vendors that provide pet care, dry cleaning delivery, car rental, and many other services while at Golden Oak. During the initial move-in process, we provide residents a community orientation as well as a list of potential resources that can help with home care and personal property management.

Leaf: Sounds like a good time to hear first hand from Jan, a Golden Oak resident, whose story appears in the Holiday Services article of the Leaf: "I love having the Resident Services team here, because it allows me to carry on with my days knowing that any concern or question I have will be taken care of."
Jamie: That's what we do best and truly enjoy.

Ariel Sculpture

Golden Oak Sculpture Series is About to Make a Splash!

Golden Oak will soon be welcoming famous mermaid Ariel and Friends to the community!

The arrival of Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian will mark the first of a series of bronze sculptures around Golden Oak. The series is themed Disney Friends in Nature, celebrating the relationship among the residents of Golden Oak, the environment and our beloved Disney characters.

While brainstorming the idea of a collection of distinctive sculptures for Golden Oak, Walt Disney Imagineers were inspired by the iconic statue of Ariel found at Ariel's Grotto in Disneyland® Resort. Ariel joined Disneyland® Resort to commemorate The Little Mermaid, giving a home to the film that launched the second Golden Age of Disney Animation. With their first scene in hand, the next step was to decide where the sculptures would call home at Golden Oak.

Before long, Ariel and Friends will have the perfect home in front of the fountain on Dream Tree Boulevard, near the entrance to the Silverbrook neighborhood. Other classic Disney characters, including Bambi, Thumper and Flower, along with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, are also planned for locations in the community.

"Ariel and Friends brings a little piece of Disney's storytelling into the Golden Oak community," said Page Pierce, Vice President. "It's another special touch to underscore the magic of living at this extraordinary place."

We're thrilled to have such delightful personalities among our neighbors of Golden Oak. If you're planning on visiting Golden Oak soon, be sure stop by and see Ariel and Friends!

Golden Oak residents and their guests have already begun to enjoy some of the key amenities of Summerhouse - like its lap and family pool, family room with game area and state-of-the-art fitness facilities. Other amenities such as the private lounge and restaurant are set to open later this year.

Centrally located on approximately 5 acres, Summerhouse makes a striking impression with its Tuscan farmhouse design theme. A Mediterranean color palette and building materials - such as natural stone, plaster, heavy timbers, artisanal tiles and reclaimed old bricks - are warm, welcoming, and true to the architectural influences of the community.

Inside the well-appointed clubhouse, the main dining room will be crowned with an Old World-style bell tower; nearby will be a lounge, private dining room, custom-built wine cooler and locker space for spirits. The demonstration kitchen will be outfitted for chef-helmed cooking events, while the inviting family room with large TV screen offers a comfortable place for gaming and hanging out. Alongside the fitness facilities, with private training area and locker rooms, is an outdoor lawn for fitness activities.

The Golden Oak Resident Services desk is conveniently located inside Summerhouse. Members of our Resident Services team, who bring the Disney guest service culture directly to residents and their guests, are available to help arrange personal, residential and resort requests.

Emphasizing the outdoor living experience so intrinsic to life at Golden Oak, Summerhouse effortlessly melds inside with outside, day into night. A center courtyard, with fountain and trellised brick walkways, leads to the heated pool, function lawn, fire pit, al fresco dining and more.

Along with an inspired calendar of events for children and adults - such as culinary adventures and special themed and seasonal activities - Summerhouse will soon bring a special kind of magic to Golden Oak.

Welcome to the Neighborhood

Welcome to the Neighborhood

Twenty-four years ago at Walt Disney World® Resort, young honeymooners Lorrie and Elliott began a family tradition of magical Disney vacations. Now, as the proud parents of three and the owners of a gorgeous residence at Golden Oak, these Midwesterners are delighted to call Walt Disney World® Resort home.

Leaf: How did you find out about Golden Oak, and what clinched your decision to build a home here?
Elliott: We initially learned of Golden Oak from an article I found online. My family's first reaction was, "When can we get started!" Not long after, when our son Brandon and his wife moved to Florida and our daughter Makenzy said her dream was to work for Disney after she graduated college, that pretty much sealed the deal for us.

Leaf: We hear that your family likes to vacation with Disney Cruise Line.
Elliott: We love to go on Disney Cruises. We have been on several, including the inaugural cruise of the Disney Dream. I remember the first time we rode the Aquaduck on the Dream, going out over the ship looking down at the ocean. It was a blast! We love the fact that Disney does things first class and the cruises are no exception.

It will be a great convenience to be able to come down and relax in our home at Golden Oak around the times we have a cruise booked. Just to be able to take our time getting over to the ship and having the packing be much easier will be a nice perk.

Leaf: Tell us, what in particular about Golden Oak is your family really looking forward to?
Elliott: Coming from the Midwest, we enjoy staying in Florida during the coldest months of winter. (Brrrrr!) We also plan to have special holiday gatherings with friends and family as often as possible.

We really are excited to be part of something we believe will provide a lifetime of memories. What other place could be better for that than a community at Disney, where all the residents will have the same common theme of family, fun and Disney?

My advice to anyone who is thinking about buying a home at Golden Oak is, Do it! Life can get so complicated at times, and it's family and friends sharing time together that really matters most.

One-on-one With A Golden Oak Homebuilder: The Series Concludes

In this issue, we wrap up our series of conversations with our Golden Oak homebuilders. We are pleased to spotlight some of the qualities and thinking that make them people we are proud to know and work with.

J. Richard Watson Construction Company, Inc.
Leaf: What is your favorite part in the process of homebuilding?
Rick Watson: Creativity, and working with our homeowners. There's nothing like meeting a new homeowner for the first time, hear about their dreams and wishes, and then seeing the satisfaction and pleasure when they walk into their new home.

Leaf: What's the most valuable lesson you learned on your path to becoming a successful homebuilder?
Rick Watson: I don't think I am personally any different than I was when I first started to build my company. Building practices and technology have changed over the years, but being a successful builder still requires adherence to three principles: hard work, honesty, and always treating people the way you want them to treat you. Abiding by these principles has afforded us the opportunity to build homes for the same families a second and even third time. In fact, right now I am building two homes that are the second time around for both homeowners, so I think our approach to creating custom homes is resonating with our clients.

Leaf: As you've gotten to know all that's going into the Golden Oak community, name something that made you think, "Wow - that is really cool," and why?
Rick Watson: It's kind of hard to single out one, because the whole concept is such a "wow". One of our prospective clients from Texas were here for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party and staying at Disney's Contemporary Resort. As I drove to visit them, I passed Golden Oak on Vista Boulevard, and as I came by Disney's Wilderness Lodge and passed under the Monorail, a wonderful memory hit home: I saved my money to come here for my very first vacation, and now I get to build homes here. The fact that families can now live in Golden Oak at Walt Disney World® Resort is really unbelievable.

Spotlight on Casa Arezzo: Grand Living in Iconic Style

Like its legendary wines, the Tuscany region of Italy has been long admired for its architecture. And, in fact, the iconic Tuscan style of the splendid Casa Arezzo in Golden Oak at Walt Disney World® Resort originated in the rustic stone barns of provincial Arezzo, where growers made and stored their wines.

Casa Arezzo is a stunning and modern interpretation of its namesake's tradition of converting these centuries-old barns to grand homes. This artful creation from Ray Coudriet Builder, Inc. exudes beauty and timeless design, while epitomizing the best of contemporary living.

Soaring main rooms, one-and-a-half stories tall, provide open settings for convivial cooking, dining, entertaining and relaxed gatherings. Each enjoys prime views of-and ready access to-the central courtyard with pool, cabana, spa and summer kitchen.

Offering a contrasting sense of retreat are the single-story private living areas which flank the main "stone barn" structure. To one side is the separate owner's suite with a sumptuous bathroom and chambered walk-in closets; to the other, four sizable bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms await family and guests.

At Casa Arezzo, the classical beauty of the simple, natural and authentic is accentuated with top-of-the-line materials and finishes. "We wanted the home to have a feeling like it is a very established, classic estate home," says Morgan Luton of Ray Coudriet Builder, Inc., "but with all the most current, luxurious features, such as custom cabinetry, exotic marbles, wide-plank wood floors, wine closet, stone fireplaces, Venetian plaster walls, custom wall upholstery and even a silver-leaf ceiling."

Located at Lot 11 in the Silverbrook neighborhood and currently priced at $3,495,000, highlights include:
  • 5,839 square feet of indoor living area
  • 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 2 powder rooms
  • Gourmet kitchen and wine closet
  • Living room, family room and game room
  • Courtyard with pool, cabana, summer kitchen

One-on-one with Two More Golden Oak Homebuilders

In the third installment of this series, we find out how two of our builders' deep admiration of Walt Disney World® Resort inspires them both professionally and personally.

Ray Coudriet of Ray Coudriet Builder, Inc.
Leaf: Here at Golden Oak, we are all about celebrating family and Disney traditions. Tell us, how does tradition play a role in your company?
Ray Coudriet: One of the things that reminds me of tradition is the original, hand-drawn blueprint for Cinderella's Castle, which hangs on my office wall. I often look at it and am inspired by all the tradition it stands for. To see how Disney people put something on paper like that and then built it up so beautifully, creating such lasting traditions, has always inspired me to do the same with the architecture of our homes. It reminds me of where this area started and has grown to, and the way my business has started and grown to within just a couple miles of this.

Leaf: What do you think is one of the most notable impacts of technology on how homes are designed and built these days?
Ray: What's so nice about technology now is that we're able to show buyers what a house will look like three dimensionally before it's ever been built. They can literally see the finished colors and details, even fly around the house - things that buyers sometimes can't understand by looking at blueprints. Technology can reduce the need for changes later on, and really helps with efficiency.

Leaf: Golden Oak homes feature some beautiful interpretations of architectural styles. Tell us your favorite example of architecture in the Walt Disney World® Resort parks and why.
Ray: When I was a kid and first came here when Walt Disney World® Resort opened, a lot of my friends were wowed by the rides, or this or that. What excited me was the detail in the architecture that Disney created. They kept opening up different parks, like Epcot®, and that architecture was so detailed. Disney does it right. I like to build homes with this same attention to detail, so it's a great blend between us.

Don Hempel of Issa Homes
Leaf: What's the most valuable lesson you learned on your path to becoming a successful homebuilder?
Don Hempel: It's really about listening to the customer, engaging with them and being able to give them what they're asking for. Whether or not it's a new experience for them, they look to us for guidance throughout the process. A client might think they want something before they know the cost or if the request really adds any value to their investment. I try to guide them in their decision-making by putting a value on their requests, whether it's monetary, functionality or practicality, and attempt to give them what they want that fits their lifestyle, budget and needs.

Leaf: As you've gotten to know all that's going into the Golden Oak community, name something that made you think, "Wow - that is really cool," and why?
Don: The whole concept of Golden Oak offering a limited collection of homes in such close proximity to the Disney theme parks. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, with just about 450 homesites. Once the homes are finished, so is that chapter in Golden Oak history. To me that is pretty cool.

Leaf: Tell us your favorite example of architecture in the Walt Disney World® Resort parks and why.
Don: One of the things Disney does so well is their focus on architecture and how they execute to a high level of detail. As much as I like Disney's Grand Floridian, when I go to Disney's Wilderness Lodge, I kind of get a nostalgic feeling for growing up in New Jersey and going camping up in the Adirondacks in upstate New York.

Lot 18, Tuscan Sun – Built By Jones-Clayton Construction

At Home in the Tuscan Sun

No wonder a stay in a Tuscany villa is on many a bucket list. You, family and friends... gathered at a grand, picturesque home... in a famed, sun-kissed setting. Now that's la dolce vita – the sweet life.

Actually, that sounds like a typical day at the Tuscan Sun, a stunning and creatively appointed, whole-ownership estate home right here in our magnificent community of Golden Oak. And it's now ready for one ideal family to live the sweet life at Walt Disney World® Resort.

True to the architectural influences of Golden Oak, the Tuscan Sun radiates Old World authenticity and charm – but is clearly a New World creation throughout. As custom homebuilder, Rial Jones of Jones-Clayton Construction tells us, "Many of the design aspects of the home were taken from trend-setting resort hotels in South Florida, California and Europe... colorful, light and playful inside."

Indeed, the inspiration for some of the home's most dazzling features comes from far-flung travels and exotic locales: a poolside bedroom designed to feel like a floating cabana in Bali. A modern, glass-encased wine room, as seen in a 200-year-old Barcelona building and of striking contrast to its traditional surroundings. A stone-clad, master-bath double shower that evokes a tropical spa experience in Thailand.

"The goal," Rial explains, "was to make the homeowners feel like they are living in a high-end resort property while enjoying the privacy of their own home."

Browse the photo gallery of this extraordinary retreat, and you'll see what a beautiful accomplishment it is. Priced at $3,450,000 and located at Lot 18 in the Silverbrook neighborhood, additional highlights include:

  • 6,788 square feet of indoor living area
  • 5 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, 2 powder rooms
  • Expansive kitchen
  • Central courtyard with pool, cabana and swim-up bar, summer kitchen and full bath
  • Owner's suite with large walk-in closet and morning kitchen
  • Separate guest suite with courtyard and pool views
  • Three-car garage

Jim surprises his wife Sabrina with an unexpected Christmas gift.

A Christmas Gift to Last a Lifetime

Nothing prepared Sabrina for the Christmas gift her husband Jim surprised her with. On the chilly morning of December 8th, Jim presented her with a gift box wrapped in Tinker Bell Christmas paper. "I had an inkling of what it might be, and told Jim 'I think I'm going to cry'," she said. When she saw the Golden Oak logo and welcome letter, she knew that Jim had once again "totally wowed" her – by purchasing a homesite at Golden Oak.

Family times at Walt Disney World® Resort with children and grandchildren were always a "must do" for Sabrina. And juggling the schedules of five children and five grandchildren in Ohio and North Carolina gave her and Jim the chance to visit Disney parks several times each year. With all their visits here, the couple became Disney Vacation Club members and in 2009, started looking for a vacation home close to Walt Disney World® Resort. None of the homes they saw suited their needs.

After two years of looking, Golden Oak popped up on their radar screen during a 2011 trip to Florida. In mid November of this year, they returned for another visit for Sabrina's birthday. Just two weeks after, Jim decided he wanted to purchase the homesite and give it to Sabrina as a Christmas gift. Sabrina immediately fell in love with the idea of owning a home at Walt Disney World® Resort and now tells everyone, "It's a fairytale come true!"

Da Vinci — Built by CAHILL

One-on-one with Golden Oak Homebuilders: The Conversations Continue

It takes a special caliber of professional and a special kind of person to be a homebuilder at Golden Oak. In this latest installment of our Q & A series, two more of our homebuilders share some revealing insights about what has been for both a lifelong calling.

Rial Jones of Jones-Clayton Construction
Leaf: What inspired you to become a homebuilder?
Rial Jones: I've always had an interest in construction and design. When I was 13 or 14 years old, I was mapping out the Parade of Homes route as to what houses to go see. I would get my mom to drive me around to the homes. When my family moved to Orlando in 1964, my dad bought a house from Charles Clayton who at the time was a big builder there. When I turned 18, I got my real estate license and began selling custom homes for that same gentleman. By age 21 or 22 I had realized it would be more fun to be in his shoes, so I started building.

Leaf: What part of your work do you find the most rewarding?
Rial: Being able to be part of something that is really special to a family means a lot. We're involved in what is, in many cases, the most significant thing going on in their lives - building a new house that the kids are going to grow up in and remember all their lives. Just recently, because of a family's religious beliefs, building the house had to start at a certain time on a certain day, which happened to be Sunday at 8 a.m. So eight o'clock Sunday morning we were out there on-site with our shovels, turning over the first mounds of dirt. The kids and all their extended family were there and they were taking pictures. It was really neat.

Leaf: What's the best advice you could offer to Golden Oak buyers about choosing the right builder?
Rial: Quite honestly, all of the builders at Golden Oak have talented enough teams to build whatever anybody wants to come up with. So I think the most important thing is how you click personally. When you first meet your builder, if you feel comfortable with them and you click, then that's a pretty sure sign that it will be a successful, enjoyable relationship. It is a bit of a marriage, if you will. You're normally designing your house for two to three months and then you're building it for 12-14 more. You'll get to know your builder pretty well.

Steve Cahill of CAHILL
Leaf: Here at Golden Oak, we are all about celebrating family and Disney traditions. Tell us, how does tradition play a role in your company?
Steve Cahill: I believe traditions, within CAHILL, translate to our core values. We have a tradition of giving 100% in everything that we do, setting realistic budgets and providing on-time delivery of new houses to our homeowners. Additionally, the tradition of "people" runs deep in the DNA of CAHILL. Judd Webster has been with me since 1980 and my son Chad has been with me since 2004. We know each other well and we enjoy working together.

Leaf: What inspired you to become a builder and then to focus on custom homebuilding?
Steve: Building a house is like creating three-dimensional art. As a builder, I get to dream big - and then watch the dream become a reality. I have the opportunity to provide families with a house that they will soon make their home - by making memories with their family and by finding rest and rejuvenation there. We love what we do!

Breaking ground on December 6th for Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort. Photo by Joe Woolhead

Press Release: Construction Begins on Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2011) — Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts kicked off construction of its luxury resort at Walt Disney World Resort today, in a groundbreaking ceremony with joint venture partners Silverstein Properties and Dune Real Estate Partners. The 444-room resort, being built in the enclave of Golden Oak at Walt Disney World® Resort, will create about 2,000 construction jobs, and hundreds of resort positions when open.

"Travelers around the world know and trust Four Seasons, and Walt Disney World is the world's premiere family vacation destination," said Meg Crofton, president Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations US & France. "Together, our two companies offer a brand-new reason to visit and experience Central Florida."

With an opening anticipated in 2014, Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort will feature several dining venues including a rooftop restaurant with Magic Kingdom views; a 14,000 square foot spa; fitness center; three pools and a "lazy river"; sports and recreational facilities; meeting and event space plus a business center.

Kathleen Taylor, President and CEO of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, spoke of the relationship with Disney: "Each of us is dedicated to creating a product of the highest quality and standards, something that will become a landmark here in Orlando, and a destination unto itself for travelers from all over the world. It is truly a one-of-a-kind project and Central Florida will be a valuable addition to our family of resorts, particularly since this is a destination our guests already enjoy."

The development will encompass the existing Tom Fazio-designed Osprey Ridge 18-hole championship golf course, which will be renovated and subsequently managed by Four Seasons. The first Four Seasons in Central Florida is located within the Golden Oak residential community at Walt Disney World Resort.

Larry Silverstein, president and CEO of Silverstein Properties, recalled making the decision to back the project. "At the end of the day, it became apparent that the concept was right; that the team superb; the location first class and the two names - Four Seasons and Disney - as good as you can get," he said.

Sam, Lois and their children in 2011

Welcome to the Neighborhood

Excitement and anticipation are in the air at Golden Oak as more families are settling in. Among those looking forward to enjoying an incredible home base for celebrating Disney traditions and the upcoming holidays are new residents Sam and Lois, joining us from the Northeast U.S. The proud parents of three children (Cheryl, Sam III and Christine) and seven grandchildren, these avid Disney fans took some time from their busy move-in preparations to chat with The Leaf.

Leaf: How long has your family been coming to Walt Disney World?
Sam: Since 1976. In total, we've made at least 65 trips down and back at 1,200 miles both ways. There has been a very interesting progression. The first trip we took, we slept in a tent at Fort Wilderness. We had a great time and said maybe we'll come back in five or six years. Two or three weeks after we got home, we were reminiscing about the fun times we had. Right then, we made the decision to visit the next year.

Our third year we bought a pop-up trailer. We used that for about three or four years and then went through quite a few motor homes. Towards the last 10-12 years, we were coming down three or four times a year with the children and grandchildren. They just don't make a motor home big enough for seven grandchildren and eight adults. This made us think, "Why don't we buy a home down here?"

Leaf: What attracted you to Golden Oak?
Sam: I read about it in the Wall Street Journal. What better way to be a part of Disney than to live at Golden Oak? We have so many fond memories of Disney. It's the common ground that our family can all discuss and understand and share experiences with.

Leaf: Tell us what clinched your decision to purchase a home here.
Sam: Within days of talking with a Golden Oak Sales Associate, Lois was on a plane to put down our deposit. A couple weeks later, we came back to figure out what we wanted to buy, as we weren't sure if we would buy a homesite or a spec house. We interviewed three builders, which worked out very well as one of them was building the house we had in mind. We were lucky; the sequence of events happened in just the right order.

It's been an absolute pleasure working with our builder. Hundreds of companies say they practice partnerships, but very few actually do! This has been the best buying experience that I have ever had.

Leaf: How have your family and friends reacted?
Sam: Everybody is extremely excited.
Lois: They're all coming when we're moving in! Our favorite time at Disney is Christmas, so we can't wait to be here to celebrate the holidays.
Sam: It will be enjoyable having everybody around. This house will be in our family for a very long time.

Lot 42, Villa d'Este — Built by Goehring & Morgan Construction, Inc.

One-on-one with Golden Oak Homebuilders

Spend just a few minutes with any of the Golden Oak homebuilders and you'll see they're as interesting and likeable as they are outstanding professionals. To give you a preview, The Leaf recently sat down with them for some builder Q&A. Starting with this issue, we kick off a series of the highlights of our conversations.

Kim Goehring and Chris Morgan of Goehring & Morgan Construction, Inc.
Leaf: What is your favorite part in the process of homebuilding?
Chris Morgan: Delivering the product. It's just that creative process of watching something unfold for our clients and watching all our craftsmen use their talents on the jobs.

Our average subcontractor has been with us 20 years. Some go back as far as 30 to 40 years, when Kim's dad started in the business. Show them a picture of something you want that's never been done, and watch them respond. They love it! They push themselves to become better and better and better. -That's what custom homebuilding is about.

Leaf: Here at Golden Oak, we are all about celebrating family and Disney traditions. Tell us, how does tradition play a role in your company?
Chris: First of all, it's a family business. Kim chose to follow his dad into the business and his daughter is in the business with him now. My son Chuck chose to go to the University of Florida Construction school and then he came back to work with us. That's the beauty of our business: Kim has three generations in it and I have two.

I think another thing is that tradition is also part of the community that you're developing. The test of the builder or an architect is not what we build today; it's when we're gone. My grandkids can drive around and see what I have done... homes that still have the beauty and the value. They have lasted the test of time. That's tradition, and what a great reward to be part of a tradition like Golden Oak.

Leaf: What do you think is one of the most notable impacts of technology on how homes are designed and built these days?
Chris: I think home automation is the number one for us. You could even take that further with energy efficiency and environmental efficiencies with all of the new technology they have now. It's a realm of things, but mainly home automation.
Kim: For example, the lights for one Golden Oak client were raised to only 90% of capacity, so they're saving 10% of that energy and nobody knows the difference.

Derrick Koger of Derrick Builders, Inc.
Leaf: What inspired you to become a builder and to focus on custom homebuilding?
Derrick Koger: Both of my grandfathers were master carpenters. Through my childhood years, I worked summer jobs for them, basically as their laborer. Watching things get built, how they're being built and the work ethic that they showed me all inspired me. The rush of watching a house come from the dirt to the final product was just like, "Wow."

Knowing I wanted to do custom homes - to tailor-fit homes to families - I dove right in. Coming from Central Florida, born and raised here, I was fortunate to have a lot of eyes watching me and a lot of opportunities to prove myself.

Leaf: What's the most valuable lesson you learned on your path to becoming a successful homebuilder?
Derrick: Your word. My grandfather always told me that if my word's good and my work's good, I'll always have work. That's been my motto. My Yes is my Yes and my No is my No. That means to always have integrity. No matter what the price is, no matter what the economy is, no matter who the competition is, buyers are looking for the relationship and trust that integrity brings. We adapt as far as materials and design features, but our philosophy, approach to things and attention to detail has followed the tradition I was taught by my grandfathers and father: it's easier to do it right than it is to do it wrong.

Leaf: Golden Oak homes feature some beautiful interpretations of architectural styles. Tell us your favorite example of architecture in the Walt Disney World® Resort parks and why.
Derrick: When I walk through Magic Kingdom® Park or Epcot® and I see the facades and the intricate detail, they really give you the true essence of how that craftsmanship would have been presented back in their day. To me it's not just a matter of using material and building. The whole success is in the proportions and scale. History tells you how they should be put together, based on thousands of years of figuring that out. I've always been taught that you look back to find the right answers. You don't look forward to try to reinvent the new answers.

Backstory: The Names Behind the Names at Golden Oak

Backstory: The Names Behind the Names at Golden Oak

References to Disney history and lore can be found throughout Golden Oak, including the naming of our community. Here, we spotlight the stories behind the names of our neighborhoods and featured streets.

As you drive down Dream Tree Boulevard, imagine a young Walt Disney sitting beneath his "Dreaming Tree"-the tree in his childhood hometown that provided shade for many hours of daydreaming. Those who live in the Carolwood neighborhood will share the street name of Walt Disney's Holmby Hills, California, home and of the miniature, steam-powered Carolwood Pacific Railroad that Walt built in his backyard. In Silver Lake, the Los Angeles location of Walt and Roy Disney's first large studio, we find the origins of the name for Golden Oak's Silverbrook neighborhood.

The inspiration behind the names of Kimball Trace is equally fascinating.

This charming village neighborhood was named in honor of Ward Kimball, one of Walt Disney's original team of animators and artists known as the "Nine Old Men." During his 38 years with Disney, Kimball brought to life many memorable Disney characters including Jiminy Cricket in "Pinocchio" and Tweedledee and Tweedledum in "Alice in Wonderland." An Academy Award winner, Ward was also an accomplished jazz trombonist and fellow enthusiast of backyard railroads.

Three Kimball Trace streets bear the names of colleagues of Ward's during those formative years at Disney Studios and beyond.

Earle Court is the namesake of Eyvind Earle, an artist who joined Walt Disney Studios in 1953. Eyvind created the look for "Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom," an animated short film that won an Academy Award and a Cannes Film Festival Award. His distinctive styling of backgrounds and colors for the classic Disney movie, "Sleeping Beauty," gave the movie its magical, medieval look and earned Eyvind widespread acclaim. Visit Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland and you can admire the dioramas inspired by his original brushwork.

If you know Pluto, then you know the artistry of John Lounsbery, whose surname inspired Lounsberry Circle. John joined Disney's animation team in 1935 and for several years specialized in "Pluto" animated short films. The directing animator of such Disney classic films as "Dumbo," "Alice in Wonderland," "Peter Pan," "Lady and the Tramp," "Sleeping Beauty," "The Jungle Book," "The Aristocats," "Robin Hood," and beloved Winnie the Pooh featurettes, John was named a Disney Legend in 1989.

Another Disney Legend inspired the name of Blaine Court. Blaine Gibson's animator credits include "Fantasia," "Bambi," "Alice in Wonderland," "Peter Pan," "Sleeping Beauty" and "101 Dalmatians." In 1954, Walt discovered Blaine's talent for creating animal sculptures, which led to the artist's trailblazing work in 3-D animation and Audio-Animatronics for Walt's new theme park, Disneyland. As a Walt Disney Imagineer, Blaine contributed to the magic behind such favorite Disney attractions as Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion and the Hall of Presidents, as well as exhibits in the 1964-65 New York World's Fair.

Early Buyers Prepare to Move in to Golden Oak Homes

Press Release: Early Buyers Prepare to Move in to Golden Oak Homes; Three Furnished Showcase Homes Open for Tours

Homes Fulfill Common Desire for Family Retreat in Disney's Unique Residential Resort Community

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (Aug. 24, 2011) — For most people, a visit to Walt Disney World® is reason to celebrate. But that wasn't quite enough for two families from Oklahoma and West Virginia.

"I wanted to be the grandma who lives at Walt Disney World®!" says Jill, who along with her husband, Jack, was one of the first families to purchase land and build a home in Golden Oak*, Disney's unique residential resort community. "Who do you think the kids will want to visit the most?"

Karen, who bought a home with her husband, Kevin, had a similar feeling about Golden Oak: "Disney's just outside the gate, but it's quiet inside. We know this will make our kids and grandkids happy!"

Karen and Kevin will move into their Spanish-Revival inspired home in the next two months. The home is located in Silverbrook, which features 19 home sites of approximately one-half acre each. Residents can savor moments of quiet repose alongside conservation areas or water features, or easily stroll to community amenities and activities at the Summerhouse, which is currently under construction.

Jack and Jill will move into their Tuscan-inspired vacation home in January, with plans to split their time between Florida and Oklahoma. But, as Jill says jokingly, "Jack is a little concerned that he may lose me to Florida for most of the year!" Their home is located in Kimball Trace, a charming Tuscan-inspired village nestled between the tranquil waters of the lagoon and the cool shade of the natural preserves. Varying in design and style, each home demonstrates the luxury lifestyle that Golden Oak has to offer — including subtle Disney-inspired touches.

Kimball Trace also features the first three showcase village homes in Golden Oak, which were recently completed and furnished, and are now open for tours (by appointment only):

  • Inspiring to all who enter the front door, Villa d'Este by Goehring & Morgan showcases the exquisite view of the outdoor areas. Featuring approximately 3,664 square feet of indoor living space, this home offers four bedrooms, four en-suite bathrooms and one powder room, a gathering room with incredible beamed ceilings and a separate study. The owner's suite overlooks a long view of the courtyard areas and pond. Subtle, yet elegant details of this home, such as the knotty alder front door; the interior and exterior ironwork; the clay tile imported from France; and, the authentic stone on the exterior elevation, help to create a truly exceptional showcase home.
  • Casa di Lusso by ISSA Homes is as beautiful as it is timeless. This two-story home features approximately 4,272 square feet of indoor living space where almost all rooms have a generous view of the pond. This home is inspired by a creatively designed farmhouse, and is open and airy. Featuring four bedrooms, four en-suite bathrooms, one powder room and a generous area for entertaining, this home is one of a kind. One is immediately drawn to the large outdoor living space and generously sized pool and spa.
  • An architecturally inspiring home, Da Vinci by Cahill showcases approximately 4,044 square feet of indoor living area. This home features four bedrooms — all with en-suite bathrooms and one of which is a private guest suite — an additional study/guest bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, one powder room and a family room and kitchen designed for bringing the family together as well as entertaining. The well-appointed and large owner's suite features a walk -in closet and is privately located on the first floor, surrounded by a beautiful courtyard filled with flowers and palm trees.

CHARMING VILLAGE SETTINGS
Both Kimball Trace and Silverbrook are within neighborly reach of Summerhouse, Golden Oak's planned 16,000 square-foot residential clubhouse designed by Walt Disney Imagineers. Currently under construction and scheduled for opening in 2012, Summerhouse has been planned to include indoor and outdoor dining areas, a lounge with wine storage and full bar, a family room with gaming area, a demonstration kitchen for guest chef appearances, as well as a state-of-the-art fitness facility, locker rooms and pool with towel service. An outdoor fire pit, courtyard, function lawn and park areas are planned for year-round recreation. Programs are anticipated to include kitchen demonstrations by Disney chefs, seasonal parties and family events hosted by Golden Oak Resident Services professionals.

Other neighborhoods currently under construction in the one-of-a-kind community located at Walt Disney World Resort include:

  • Carolwood Reserve: A limited offering of eight premium custom-home sites, all generously sized at approximately three-quarters acre each. Residents here will enjoy serene natural, golf course or water views.
  • Carolwood: The natural preserves surrounding this lovely neighborhood offer a scenic and private setting. At up to threequarters acre in size, each of Carolwood's 17 grand estate custom-home sites can amply accommodate multigenerational families.

THE DISNEY CONNECTION
Families who close on the purchase of a homesite or completed home in Golden Oak before December 31, 2011 will receive one complimentary five-year Golden Oak VIP Pass for the homebuyer, providing admission for the homebuyer and up to four guests. The special Golden Oak VIP Pass will allow admission to all four Walt Disney World theme parks, water parks, DisneyQuest indoor interactive theme park and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex every day of the year with no block-out dates. Also included is complimentary parking for one car and discounts up to 20 percent on select merchandise purchased at select Walt Disney World Resort parks or Downtown Disney area locations.

Welcome to the Neighborhood

Welcome to the Neighborhood

When Walt Disney World® Parks & Resorts announced that construction had begun on a new residential resort community at Walt Disney World® Resort, many wondered about who would be living in such an exciting neighborhood. Enter Jack and Jill (yes, those are their real names) and their three children from Oklahoma, one of the first families to purchase a home at Golden Oak. The Disney brand has long been a part of their family, but let's hear about it from Jill, in her own words.

Leaf: How long has your family been coming to Walt Disney World Resort?
Jill: Our first trip to Walt Disney World with our kids in 1994 was the real start of our Disney journey as a family. We'd just recovered from chicken pox (barely). My oldest, Casey, turned 5 the month before, Cameron was 3 and Claire was 10 months old. We were rookies! Showed up with a hotel room and a Park pass with no additional planning. We had a blast!

Leaf: When did your family first fall in love with Walt Disney World Resort?
Jill: We didn't return until 1997 when we took the whole family to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for ten nights. Walt Disney World had just started Magic Kingdom® E-Ride Nights and we stayed in the parks until 3:00am! We had an eight, six, and a four year old by that time. Very few people were at the Park and we were in heaven. My oldest rode Space Mountain® over and over and over — and decided to hit the sack early. At 3:30am, here comes my husband and two kids, Claire on Jack's shoulders, skipping and singing down the hall. By the end of the trip we had joined Disney Vacation Club®.

Leaf: Tell us about your family.
Jill: We were blessed with three great kids. Casey is a college senior majoring in Business with a passion for and career goals in sports. Cameron is at a Florida University majoring in Hospitality Management with an emphasis in Theme Park and Attraction Management. He will graduate early after the summer of 2012 and is contemplating getting his Master's before going full time with Disney. He has worked at the Hall of Presidents, Disney's Hollywood Studios® turnstiles and auto plaza, and is currently training for Guest Relations at Magic Kingdom Park. Claire, the baby, just graduated from high school and will be attending college in Florida as well. Her love of animals is probably where her future will take her. She shows American Saddle bred horses on a National level.

Leaf: What did your family say when they found out you were purchasing a home at Golden Oak?
Jill: Everyone was so excited! Since I'm going to have two kids down there it made a lot of sense. I will be the grandma that lives at Walt Disney World. Who will they want to visit the most?

Leaf: What feature of Golden Oak is your family most excited about?
Jill: Location, Location, Location. As Disney Vacation Club members, we never anticipated buying in Orlando, but how do you pass up an opportunity to live at Walt Disney World? Not this Disney-loving family!

Leaf: Tell us about the home you are building in Golden Oak.
Jill: We are building a village home in Kimball Trace, so it will have a Tuscan design consistent with the rest of the neighborhood. We have been very lucky; Cahill Homes, our builder, has been so great, keeping us abreast of everything going on and the progress being made. We are going for comfortable, casual, and staying with the Tuscan feel throughout. We want people to feel welcome to come in and put their feet up!

Leaf: What about Golden Oak appealed to your family?
Jill: Since I make about five trips a year to Walt Disney World, of course the location was appealing. The weather is a big factor, also. Jack is a little concerned about losing me to Florida for most of the year since he is not retired. I would like to have a nice balance of both Oklahoma and Florida. I am also looking forward to holidays with extended family here.

Leaf: What will be the first thing you will do when you move in?
Jill: Sit in my courtyard and listen for the train whistle from the Magic Kingdom!

Each of the builders is purchasing initial individual homesites, allowing construction of the first showcase and spec homes to begin immediately.

Since Disney announced the project in June, the company has seen significant interest from potential buyers. Richard Watson Construction Company, Inc. (www.jrichardwatson.com), and Ray Coudriet Builder, Inc. (www.raycoudriet.com).

These experienced custom builders are creating residential design concepts for interested buyers and showcase and spec homes, consistent with the unique architectural aesthetic of the Golden Oak community. Disney conducted a rigorous process to select the homebuilders for Golden Oak. Superlative experience building custom luxury homes in high-end Central Florida communities, expertise in the specific architectural styles planned for Golden Oak and a demonstrated reputation for quality design and construction were some of the criteria used in the selection process. Golden Oak may invite additional builders in the future, as the community and demand grow.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Disney also unveiled the handcrafted sign at the entrance to Golden Oak, the result of many hours of artistry. The name, Golden Oak, is inspired by Walt Disney's Golden Oak Ranch in Newhall, California, where some say gold nuggets were found in 1842, a filming location for segments of the Mickey Mouse Club in the 1950's. In addition to the ranch's official use for The Walt Disney Company, the ranch served as a place of respite and relaxation for Walt and his family. Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort will offer families that same sense of magic and enchantment that Walt believed to be so important. Beyond the literal connection to Disney's Golden Oak Ranch, the iconic oak tree symbolizes the family, stability, and heritage that this community will encourage. The tree also pays subtle homage to Walt's "Dreaming Tree," the tree in his childhood hometown that provided shade for his many hours of daydreaming.

Press Release: Disney Unveils Unique Residential Resort Community at Walt Disney World

Golden Oak Will Offer Luxury, Single-Family Custom Homes for Purchase

Lake Buena Vista, Fla., (June 23, 2010) — Today Disney unveiled Golden Oak*, a one-of-a-kind luxury residential resort community offering the unprecedented opportunity to purchase a home at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Especially designed for resort living, Golden Oak will provide an entirely new way for families to connect with the world's best known family destination and entertainment brand.

"We have a range of options for Guests at all price points to enjoy the Walt Disney World Resort. But Golden Oak is something totally new: a residential resort community, right in the heart of the magic," said Matt Kelly, vice president, Disney Resort Real Estate Development. "Golden Oak will be a place where families can come together and make memories for generations to come--with Disney World right at their doorstep."

Golden Oak will offer a limited collection of single family custom homes priced between $1.5 and $8 million, with fewer than 30 home sites available for sale this year. Designed by Disney's famed Imagineers, the gated community will feature intimate neighborhoods and amenities created with everyone in the family in mind. Disney's well-known attention to detail is visible in every park, pathway and the custom-design of the proposed private clubhouse. Expansive conservation areas comprise almost half of the entire 980 acre footprint.

The proposed private clubhouse, concierge services and collection of Walt Disney World Resort benefits will bring Disney's guest service culture directly to Golden Oak residents. As previously announced, Golden Oak is planned to include Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort, combining Disney's renowned service and hospitality with Four Seasons' defining standard of excellence. Golden Oak plans to offer residents access to select Four Seasons' future amenities including the full service spa, restaurants, golf course and event space.

Initially, Golden Oak will consist of three types of single family homes. Village Homes will capture the romantic look of a Mediterranean village on home sites up to one-quarter acre. Estate Homes, on approximately one-half acre home sites, will offer a variety of architectural styles including Tuscan, Spanish Revival, Venetian, Italianate, Dutch Colonial and Island Colonial. At up to three-quarters acre in size, Grand Estate Homes will include architectural styles consistent with Estate Homes and will accommodate the needs of large families. Homeowners will use one of Golden Oak's select custom homebuilders to build the home of their dreams.

Golden Oak will use a Priority Reservation List for potential homebuyers with an interest in purchasing a home. A position is secured on the list in the order in which a signed Lot Release Priority Agreement and a refundable $25,000 deposit is received. Deposits are now being accepted, with the first completed homes projected for 2011. At build-out, Golden Oak is anticipated to include approximately 450 homes.
